Position Purpose:
The Propane Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of residential and commercial propane systems and equipment. This role ensures safe and compliant handling of propane tanks, gas lines, regulators, and related equipment, delivering exceptional service to customers while upholding industry and company safety standards.

Typical Job Duties:

  1. Install, inspect, maintain, and repair propane tanks, regulators, gas lines, and appliances according to safety codes and company procedures.

  2. Perform leak tests, pressure checks, and system inspections to verify operational safety and compliance.

  3. Respond to service calls for new installations, maintenance, repairs, and emergency situations, including after-hours on-call assignments as required.

  4. Deliver and set tanks for new customer accounts, ensuring secure installation and proper system functionality.

  5. Educate customers on propane safety, appliance operation, and maintenance requirements.

  6. Complete service orders, safety checklists, and documentation accurately and promptly.

  7. Maintain service vehicle inventory, tools, and equipment in safe and clean operating condition.

  8. Collaborate with dispatch, delivery drivers, and office staff to coordinate service work and resolve customer issues efficiently.

  9. Participate in regular safety meetings and training programs to maintain certifications and industry knowledge.

  10. Follow all company safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift up to 75 pounds regularly. Work outdoors in various weather conditions, in confined spaces, and on uneven surfaces.

Working Conditions:
Primarily field-based, working at customer locations in residential and commercial settings. Exposure to outdoor elements, propane vapors, and pressurized systems. On-call or overtime work may be required during peak seasons or emergencies.

Equipment and Machines Used:
Service vehicles, hand tools, power tools, leak detectors, gas meters, pressure gauges, and mobile devices.

Reporting Relationships:
The Propane Service Technician reports directly to the Division Manager. This position does not typically supervise other staff.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. CETP (Certified Employee Training Program) certification preferred.

  • Related Experience: Minimum of 2 years of propane system installation, maintenance, or repair experience.

Job Knowledge/Skills Required:

  1. Knowledge of propane systems, equipment, and industry safety standards.

  2. Strong troubleshooting and mechanical repair skills.

  3. Ability to read and interpret safety codes, technical manuals, and schematics.

  4. Effective customer service and communication skills.

  5. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

  6. Strong organizational and time management skills.

  7. Ability to work independently and manage a daily service route.

  8. Basic computer and mobile device skills.

  9. Commitment to safety, including following company protocols and using PPE.

  10. Flexibility to work on-call, weekends, and holidays as required.
