Our client is seeking a highly organized, technically capable individual to lead controls-related projects from bid review through execution and closeout. This role combines project management, proposal support, technical coordination, cost control, scheduling, customer communication, and cross-functional collaboration.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of electrical systems, control equipment, SCADA, telemetry, electrical drawings, and project execution. You will work closely with sales, engineering, operations, customers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure projects are accurately scoped, properly resourced, delivered safely, and completed profitably.

We are open to considering lesser experienced individuals with the technical background needed to be successful coupled with a project management mindset or experienced controls professionals looking to make a switch from executing on all of the work to supporting the flow of it.

What You’ll Do as a Project Support Specialist - Controls Engineering

  • Review bid documents, project requirements, equipment specifications, and electrical drawings to develop accurate project scopes and cost projections.
  • Research potential projects and gather, organize, interpret, and maintain bid and proposal information.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain complete quote, bid, proposal, and project documentation.
  • Translate customer and project requirements into clear specifications, system requirements, schedules, and execution plans.
  • Partner with sales and service teams to evaluate opportunities, define scope, identify site requirements, and support strategic growth initiatives.
  • Coordinate with safety leadership to ensure project estimates and execution plans account for applicable safety requirements, site rules, and procedures.
  • Review and approve controls systems integration cost projections and manage work-in-progress cost tracking throughout project execution.
  • Coordinate submittals, equipment orders, vendor communication, material flow, and project schedules.
  • Define required labor, equipment, subcontractors, and resources while balancing workload and backlog priorities.
  • Coordinate with controls engineering and operations teams to ensure work is completed within contract scope, schedule, quality expectations, and budget.
  • Select, coordinate, and manage third-party subcontractors, including establishing clear scopes of work and performance expectations.
  • Identify potential changes in project scope and communicate change-order opportunities to the sales team.
  • Provide technical support to sales teams and customers regarding controls equipment, installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
  • Develop tools and strategies that improve project execution, margin performance, and overall profitability.
  • Ensure project closeout documentation, final deliverables, and customer requirements are completed in a timely manner to support final payment.
  • Travel periodically to evaluate potential projects, site conditions, and customer needs.

What You Bring as a Project Support Specialist - Controls Engineering

  • Experience managing controls, electrical, automation, systems integration, or technical service projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, and project documentation.
  • Working knowledge of control systems, electrical equipment, SCADA, telemetry, and related field applications.
  • Experience with estimating, bidding, project scheduling, resource planning, cost tracking, and change-order management.
  • Strong ability to coordinate multiple projects, deadlines, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Comfortable communicating technical information to customers, sales teams, operations personnel, and project stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems, workflow processes, and project documentation tools.
  • Strong computer skills, organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • A collaborative, accountable approach with a strong focus on safety, customer service, and project profitability.
