Project Quality Manager - Nuclear

The Opportunity: It is the function of the Quality Management Services Department to actively promote and continuously evaluate the effective implementation of Black and Veatch policies and procedures in the support of projects. This position is responsible for evaluating design engineering, procurement, and construction activities through quality management system reviews, project and supplier audits, assessments of engineering deliverables, and in-process inspections at supplier shops and project field location to minimize risk and maintain a comprehensive functional Nuclear Quality Management Program.

Key Responsibilities:
- Define, create, implement, monitor, control and correct specialized areas which may include but not limited to nuclear energy, supplier and subcontractor performance, core process assessments and improvements, along with availability of engineering resources
- Establish and maintain quality controls (standards and criteria) for capable and controlled specialized Nuclear QA programs
- Determine goals and create plans to accomplish goals based on project regulations, NQA-1 requirements, ASME Code requirements and contract agreements.
- Develop and provide appropriate quality training for engineering support staff, as needed
- Develop and report quality program metrics to management
- Monitor progress, report observations or needs for corrective/preventive actions, and opportunities for improvement to Management
- Establish a reporting relationship that ensures objective and unbiased audits
- Qualify support staff based on training, experience, and skills
- Monitor staff performance
- Reviews and approves scope, notification letters, checklists, reports, findings, and associated corrective actions
- Maintain and safeguard program quality records
- Attend and participate in meetings, conferences, and training
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Supports continuous improvement efforts and the change management effects associated with the implementation of improvements
- Acts in capacity of a "lead person"
- Does not have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction
Preferred Qualifications:
- Principles, practices, techniques, and theories of quality processes
- Techniques relating to quality assurance and quality control programs and procedures
- Computer applications
- Engineering, design, procurement, and construction principles
- Project management principles, practices, and methods
- Construction inspection, tests, and methods
- Ability to understand instructions; reason and make good judgments; verbal, numeric, and spatial aptitudes; perception of detail in verbal or tabular materials; analytic and problem solving abilities; precision; memory; initiative and the ability to work with Black and Veatch staff, contractors, and client representatives
Minimum Qualifications:
- 4 year degree in Engineering from an accredited college.
- 5 years of experience specific to overseeing the design of nuclear projects.
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background checks, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
- Certifications: Certified Lead Auditor, American Society for Quality Certification
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Work is performed both in an indoor office setting and outside for supplier or construction site activities with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Walk, climb stairs, ladders, and in/out of vehicles and lift or move up to 25 lbs.
- Supplier or construction site environment has frequent exposure to vibration and loud noise and occasional exposure to airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, slippery uneven walking surfaces, and risk of electrical shock.
- Periodic travel will be required.
