What You Will Do

The Engineering and Technology Maturation (ETM) organization is seeking high-performing candidates to join our multidisciplinary team as a Project/Program Specialist 3.

The ETM Program operates under the Associate Laboratory Director for Weapons Physics (ALDX) and conducts research to strengthen the nation's ability to rapidly design, produce, qualify, and certify nuclear weapons. ETM's primary objectives are to develop, mature, and integrate technologies and capabilities that support the future nuclear deterrent; design, build, and test prototypes while applying lessons learned to subsequent efforts; and rapidly transition proven technologies, capabilities, and prototypes to address urgent and long-term deterrence needs. To achieve these objectives, ETM focuses on advancing modeling and simulation tools, testing capabilities, weapon technologies, materials, explosives, and surveillance methods. These efforts ensure confidence in production, qualification, and certification without reliance on underground nuclear testing.

The Project/Program Specialist 3 is a key member of the ETM team, supporting the management and execution of moderately large complex projects and programs. This role provides specialized support to the Program Manager and ETM leadership in planning, organizing, and managing resources and processes to achieve objectives within scope, schedule, and budget constraints.

The selected candidate exerts significant latitude in negotiating with project, program or line managers to ensure that resources are available and qualified to accomplish the work, to identify procurement and contracting needs, and to marshal resources to complete project deliverables within the scope, schedules, or budgets defined in project or program work packages. Without considerable direction, serves as the primary spokesperson to report status and issues to the project, program or line manager. The selected candidate exerts significant latitude in identifying potential risks, developing risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommending risk acceptance/avoidance for the assigned aspects of the project or program(s).

This position reports to the Staff Operations Manager and ETM Program Director and ensures alignment with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and program priorities.
