What You Will Do

Join the Program Support Services: Program Assurance and Risk Management team (PSS-3), responsible for implementing and maintaining a best-in-class risk management program across the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP). This unique opportunity supports the organization responsible for maintaining the U.S. nuclear weapons program. PSS-3 provides standardized program and risk management processes, systems, and tools across ALDWP to drive consistency, improve efficiency, and enhance integration of scope and deliverables in support of NNSA/DOE customer expectations.

The Project/Program Specialist will provide specialized assistance in support of assigned projects and programs, including planning, organizing, coordinating, analyzing, and monitoring activities to help achieve project/program objectives within scope, schedule, quality, and budget constraints. This position supports program governance, operational planning, reporting, process improvement, data analytics, and collaboration initiatives across ALDWP organizations and stakeholders.

Project/Program Specialist 3 Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation and administration of project and program change control processes, ensuring changes are properly documented, reviewed, approved, and tracked.
  • Evaluate and improve project/program management processes through standardization, automation, and workflow optimization.
  • Develop, analyze, and report program metrics and KPIs by collecting, integrating, and analyzing data to support trend analysis, performance monitoring, and decision-making across schedule, cost, scope, risks, and deliverables.
  • Design and maintain dashboards and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI) using data from multiple sources.
  • Develop and maintain SharePoint sites, workflows, and collaboration tools to support information management.
  • Support training and knowledge management by developing job aids, guidance materials, and training content.
  • Coordinate program planning and review activities, including stakeholder engagement, data preparation, action tracking, and follow-up reporting.
  • Collaborate with project/program managers and stakeholders to gather requirements, improve processes, and support governance activities.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, briefing materials, and program documentation as needed.

  • Develop, analyze, and interpret program metrics and KPIs to support executive decision-making, performance oversight, and risk management across scope, schedule, cost, and deliverables.
  • Design, develop, and optimize reporting tools and dashboards (e.g., Power BI), integrating multiple data sources to deliver actionable insights.
  • Oversee SharePoint and collaboration platforms, ensuring effective information management, data integrity, and usability.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for training and knowledge management, defining requirements and ensuring development of standardized materials and resources.
  • Lead program planning and review activities, including stakeholder engagement, performance analysis, and executive-level reporting of outcomes, risks, and recommendations.
  • Act as a consultative partner to project and program managers, influencing requirements and driving process and governance improvements.
  • Prepare executive briefings, presentations, performance reports, and strategic documentation for leadership decision-making.


Salary Range:

  • Project/Program Specialist 3: $106,400 to $176,000
  • Project/Program Specialist 4: $117,200 to $195,400


While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.

  • Education/Experience for Project/Program Specialist 3: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • Education/Experience for Project/Program Specialist 4: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • Project/Program Specialist 3:
    • Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience in assigned project or program management work, including knowledge of the project/business requirements, but some positions may require science or engineering knowledge in the specific area to advise on scope changes, QA and other more technical aspects of the project/program.
    • Advanced knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements related to the assigned project or program work.
    • Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective mid-level internal customer relationships.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with project/program Change Control processes.
  • Experience using SharePoint and PowerBI software.
  • Dashboard development experience with a working understanding of P6 software.
  • Experience developing and presenting informative, operative, and decision briefings to senior leadership.
  • An active DOE Q-level clearance.


Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is pro-rated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
