Job Title: Project Manager - Healthcare Construction & Capital Projects

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead large-scale healthcare construction, renovation, and capital improvement projects from planning through completion. This individual will serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, managing project scope, budgets, schedules, consultants, contractors, and project teams to ensure successful delivery while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with extensive healthcare construction experience, strong financial acumen, and a proven ability to manage complex projects in active healthcare environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead healthcare facility construction, renovation, and capital improvement projects from initiation through closeout.
  • Develop and manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and success metrics aligned with stakeholder objectives.
  • Oversee all phases of project delivery, including planning, design, procurement, construction, occupancy, and project closeout.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Track project performance against schedules, milestones, and critical path activities.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project budgets, including hard and soft costs.
  • Prepare and manage RFQs, RFPs, bid packages, and vendor selection processes.
  • Negotiate contracts, change orders, and service agreements with consultants, contractors, and vendors.
  • Monitor financial performance and ensure accountability for project expenditures and forecasting.
  • Lead project kickoff meetings and facilitate ongoing project meetings with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate design and construction teams throughout project execution.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and ensure project goals, deliverables, and expectations are clearly understood.
  • Provide regular project updates, reports, and presentations to leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable healthcare, safety, environmental, regulatory, and quality standards.
  • Identify and address areas of potential project risk, liability, and operational impact.
  • Oversee project documentation, including permits, contracts, drawings, correspondence, occupancy certificates, and closeout records.
  • Maintain adherence to established project management methodologies and best practices.
  • Mentor and support project managers and team members through coaching, training, and professional development.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the development of project management best practices.
  • Support business development efforts, including pursuing and developing new project opportunities.

Essential Skills

  • 5-10 years of practical experience in running large acute care hospital/healthcare center construction projects.
  • 8-10 years of experience in project management.
  • MEP (Mechanical Electrical Plumbing) experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of California healthcare construction, JCAHO, ADA, and OSHPD.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and regulations related to real estate and land development.
  • Ability to develop accurate RFQs and RFPs as well as supervise the bidding process.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor"s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • 5-7+ years of experience managing large-scale healthcare construction and capital projects.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare construction requirements, regulatory environments, and facility operations.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, permitting processes, and development requirements.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contracts, procurement activities, and vendor relationships.
  • Ability to prepare and manage RFQs, RFPs, and competitive bidding processes.
  • Strong knowledge of construction documents, architectural drawings, furniture planning, and space utilization concepts.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage executive-level stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and oversee project teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  • Ability to travel as required to support project needs.

Work Environment

This is a full-time onsite role located in Sacramento, working within a large 310-bed hospital. The position reports to an Account Lead or Team Lead/Product Lead/Practice Lead/Vice President.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sacramento, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $78.00 - $82.00/hr.
