The Opportunity

Tetra Tech is adding an experienced Project Manager to join our growing organization in Richland, Washington. This role is responsible for managing the domestic and international deployment of nuclear radiation detection systems. This will include managing engineering design and construction teams while driving project delivery and business growth for government and commercial clients.

The Project Manager will provide leadership for nuclear nonproliferation and new nuclear power projects, overseeing engineering, construction, and field deployment activities while ensuring regulatory compliance, quality execution, and alignment with strategic growth initiatives. This role also supports expansion into new technical service areas including security and monitoring systems, renewable energy installations, environmental remediation, and construction management.

Essential Job Functions

Project Delivery & Performance Management

  • Manage projects to achieve scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives
  • Monitor project performance and ensure compliance with corporate standards, client requirements, internal procedures, legislation, and industry best practices
  • Perform integrated change control for scope, schedule, and cost changes
  • Capture project and program lessons learned and support continuous improvement initiatives

Engineering, Construction & Technical Oversight

  • Lead and manage design, construction, installation, and system acceptance testing activities
  • Conduct and oversee engineering site surveys, including international travel
  • Support development of design requirements documents
  • Review design development packages (preliminary, final, and changes)
  • Provide documentation to support system transfer of custody to end users

Cost, Schedule & Estimating

  • Develop and support cost estimates and schedules for proposal submissions
  • Perform and review construction estimates and cost analyses
  • Review and validate subcontractor cost estimates
  • Develop, update, and manage project and construction schedules using Microsoft Project or Primavera, ensuring alignment with milestones and critical paths

Subcontracting & Commercial Support

  • Prepare statements of work for domestic and international subcontractors and services
  • Support and lead tax exemption processes

Risk, Stakeholder & Communications Management

  • Identify in-country resources, risks, and mitigation strategies
  • Develop and implement risk management plans throughout the project lifecycle
  • Identify stakeholders and manage engagement and expectations
  • Plan and manage project communications, including status reporting and stakeholder updates

Quality, Safety & Knowledge Management

  • Ensure consistent application of quality, safety, and technical standards, including reporting health and safety incidents and concerns
  • Implement and monitor Quality and Safety programs
  • Participate in Lessons Learned and Technical Exchange Working Groups
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards

Pursue Continuous Professional Development and Maintain a High Degree of Discipline Knowledge and Awareness

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • 10-15 years of project management experience with emphasis on engineering and construction
  • PMP certification (current preferred; required within one year of hire)
  • Experience working with international teams
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
  • Experience developing technical and cost proposals
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10-25%, domestically and internationally
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Experience:

  • Commercial nuclear, nuclear nonproliferation, DOE, NNSA, or DoD engineering experience
  • Experience managing security, monitoring, or complex infrastructure systems

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to lift materials or equipment up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to participate in field visits, site inspections, and client meetings

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

  • Primarily office-based with periodic field and project site exposure
  • Domestic and international travel required
  • Exposure to construction and industrial environments during site visits
