An established insurance organization is seeking an IT Portfolio Project Manager / PMO Lead to support a full portfolio of technology initiatives across software, data, infrastructure, enterprise systems, and vendor-supported programs. This role sits within a structured PMO environment and will help drive visibility, governance, reporting, forecasting, and project coordination across multiple concurrent initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings strong IT project management experience, solid business and technology acumen, and the ability to operate proactively with limited hand holding. This is a strong fit for someone who understands how technology workstreams connect to business outcomes and can produce clean, accurate updates for leadership, project teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Support IT portfolio management across multiple active technology initiatives.
- Track project status, milestones, dependencies, risks, issues, and decision points.
- Produce RAG dashboards, executive summaries, portfolio-level updates, and status reporting.
- Support governance cadences, PMO routines, standardized reporting templates, and documentation practices.
- Assist with project financials, including budget tracking, forecasting, and forecast-to-actual variance reporting.
- Coordinate with technology teams, vendors, consultants, and business stakeholders.
- Support software, data, infrastructure, and enterprise systems projects.
- Prepare clean materials and updates for senior stakeholders.
- Help manage shifting priorities, special projects, and ad hoc leadership requests.
QUALIFICATIONS- 5 plus years of project management experience within an IT organization.
- Experience supporting a PMO, CIO office, technology leadership team, or enterprise IT portfolio function.
- Strong understanding of how technology initiatives are planned, tracked, governed, and delivered.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects, dependencies, and stakeholder updates.
- Ability to create clear RAG reporting, dashboards, executive summaries, and portfolio-level materials.
- Experience with project financials, including budget tracking, forecasting, and variance reporting.
- Working knowledge of software, data, infrastructure, enterprise systems, and vendor delivery models.
- Strong communication, organization, follow-through, and presentation skills.
- Comfortable operating within structured PMO processes and governance cadences.
- Ability to work onsite in New York, NY 4 days per week.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE- Insurance, financial services, banking, fintech, or regulated industry experience.
- Experience supporting vendor or consulting engagements.
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, MS Project, Smartsheet, Power BI, ServiceNow, Clarity, Planview, Excel, or PowerPoint.
- Experience supporting software, infrastructure, data, cloud, cybersecurity, or enterprise transformation initiatives.
- Prior experience in contract, consulting, or contract-to-hire environments.
