Project Manager

Position Overview

As a Project Manager, you''ll lead and manage commercial HVAC, plumbing, and controls projects from preconstruction through closeout, coordinating field teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to deliver on-time, on-budget results with exceptional safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. Working closely with operations leadership, you''ll proactively identify risks/opportunities, track budgets, foster open communication, and drive profitability while building long-term relationships. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage full project lifecycle: planning, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, risk management, change orders, and closeout for HVAC/mechanical projects.
  • Review bid documents, drawings, and scopes early to identify potential issues, opportunities, risks, omissions, and value engineering possibilities; develop workable solutions to prevent problems.
  • Collaborate with preconstruction, estimating, and operations teams to create realistic schedules, budgets, and project plans that meet milestones and financial targets.
  • Track project budgets, costs, labor productivity, variances, and forecasts; identify shortcomings/pitfalls or profit-enhancing opportunities and implement corrective actions.
  • Promote open communication among project teams, clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal departments to resolve conflicts and ensure alignment.
  • Organize and lead coordination meetings, site walks, and progress reviews; maintain detailed documentation of scope changes, execution decisions, costs, and client communications.
  • Ensure strict adherence to contract documents, specifications, company policies, safety requirements, quality expectations, and ethical standards.
  • Champion quality assurance: conduct job-site reviews, ensure installations meet/exceed industry standards, prevent call-backs/warranty issues, and partner with quality teams on processes/inspections.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients, architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to support repeat business and future opportunities.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop project team members; track performance, delegate appropriately, nominate for promotions/incentives, and participate in hiring as needed.
  • Enforce safety compliance across teams: assure PPE usage, coordinate with safety officers for inspections/visits, and uphold company/project safety protocols at all times.
  • Provide leadership vision for project planning, coordination, sequencing, labor utilization, and continuous improvement; communicate updates and issues to executive leadership.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Yes - Direct supervision and leadership of superintendents, foremen, field personnel, and support staff on assigned projects; responsible for performance evaluations, training/mentoring, promotions/incentives, conflict resolution, and team development to ensure high performance, safety adherence, and project success.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience: 5-10+ years of progressive project management experience in commercial HVAC/mechanical construction or related building services; proven track record managing teams and projects valued from $500K to multi-million dollars.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience with strong technical HVAC knowledge considered.
  • Certifications: PMP, LEED, OSHA 30-hour, or relevant trade certifications a plus; valid driver''s license and clean driving record required.
  • Physical Demands: Primarily office-based with frequent job-site visits; ability to walk active construction sites, climb ladders/stairs, lift light materials (plans, laptop), and travel regionally/nationally as needed; standard office mobility for computer work and meetings.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Professional office with hybrid options and active construction sites; exposure to varying weather, noise, dust, heights; must adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots) on sites-safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Required Skills

  • Advanced project management (scheduling, budgeting, risk management, change order negotiation, cost control).
  • Strong leadership, team mentoring, performance management, and conflict resolution.
  • Proficiency with project tools (Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, Excel) and financial tracking.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, client/stakeholder management, and relationship building.
  • Safety and quality leadership; ability to read/interpret contracts, blueprints, specs, and scopes.
  • Multitasking under pressure, initiative, professionalism, and commitment to ethics/compliance.
