GZA is currently seeking a Project ManagerLevel asbestos, lead, hazardous building material and indoor air quality professional for our practice based in the Hooksett, New Hampshire office.  The position offers great potential for professional growth in an exciting working environment and the opportunity to apply the latest building services technology to a variety of projects throughout New England. GZA’s Building Services practice is focused on providing comprehensive asbestos and hazardous material surveys, abatement and remediation design and planning, mold and indoor air quality studies, monitoring, regulatory compliance support, and contractor oversight. 

Our projects may include demolition and renovation of commercial, industrial, or residential facilities that contain regulated material.  Building Services project manager responsibilities may include procuring qualified contractors/subcontractors, scheduling, estimating, reviewing technical submittals, responding to requests for information, thorough understanding applicable regulations, executing health/safety procedures, and providing on-site management and oversight during abatement and remediation construction projects.

The successful candidate must have a strong background in evaluating asbestos, lead paint, and other hazardous building materials to support planning, design, and construction management activities as well as strong leadership and project management experience. Experienced personnel in GZA’s Building Services discipline work directly with other GZA employees, other engineering firms, a variety of specialty contractors and subcontractors, and directly interface with the client.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing project team, delegating work to office and field staff, and executing day-to-day project needs.
  • Communicating effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients and team members.
  • Develop and comply with the Health and Safety procedures established for each project.
  • Preparing and reviewing hazardous building materials survey reports and other written project reports.
  • Monitoring and managing project compliance with contractual agreements and budgets, including terms of agreement, changes in scope, and billing process.
  • Conducting/reviewing technical analyses for the design and construction in support of a variety of projects.
  • Support the development of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, bid documents.
  • Participate in and/or lead meetings with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide business development support including preparing proposals.
  • Managing and mentoring GZA junior practitioners, professionals and support staff.
  • Working on multidisciplinary project including construction management, building services, and environmental remediation teams.

Position Requirements:

  • B.S. is required. Master’s Degree is a plus.
  • Asbestos Professional Designer, Inspector and Management Planner certificates required.
  • Mold investigator/consultant and lead risk assessor certificates are a plus.
  • A minimum of 7 to 9 yearsof experience in the asbestos, hazardous material and indoor air quality profession, with direct involvement in asbestos and hazardous materials inspections, asbestos abatement design and operations and maintenance planning, asbestos project monitoring, and mold assessments and remediation design.
  • Direct experience completing commercial, industrial, and residential regulated building material projects in the New England Region is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience with design and development of sampling strategies, management plans, technical specifications, remediation plans, cost estimating and other related bidding documents.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to speak publicly.
  • Self-starter, able to complete tasks with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Strong professional judgment, consistency, attention to detail, and background for delivering high-quality work products.
  • Innovative problem solving with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to think critically and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Solid project financial management skills; knowledge of production support systems and personal computer proficiency are all required competencies.
  • Experience in providing technical and project leadership to practitioners, professionals and support staff. Proven experience with and directing staff with investigative work and project oversight/monitoring is considered essential for this position.
  • Integrity, tenacity, strong professional judgement, demonstrated ability to succeed, independent problem-solving skills, and the attitude to confidently complete the work to meet and/or exceed client expectations.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and be able to rent a vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel, as needed.
  • Having any of the following credentials is a plus: 10-hr OSHA Construction Safety, 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
