Job Title: Project Manager - Industrial Equipment

Job Description

This role leads the coordination and execution of large, complex industrial equipment projects from engineering handoff through production and delivery. You will work closely with senior leadership, engineering, production, supply chain, and vendors to keep projects on schedule, within scope, and aligned with customer expectations. The position is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of physical equipment, fabrication, and manufacturing environments who enjoys bringing structure to a dynamic, build‑to‑order setting and taking ownership of day‑to‑day project activities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate technical and commercial project activities from engineering release through production and final delivery of industrial equipment systems.
  • Track project schedules, milestones, budgets, and deliverables using MS Project and other standard tracking tools, ensuring timely progress against plan.
  • Identify, monitor, and escalate risks related to cost, schedule, logistics, or resource constraints, and support the development of mitigation actions.
  • Prepare and distribute project status reports, meeting notes, and action item follow‑ups to maintain clear communication and accountability.
  • Support internal project reviews and facilitate cross‑functional collaboration as a coordination link between engineering, production, purchasing, accounting, and supply chain teams.
  • Manage and track engineering deliverables, including drawings, calculations, bills of materials (BOMs), reports, operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, and close‑out documentation.
  • Coordinate procurement activities such as issuing purchase orders, obtaining vendor quotations, tracking lead times, and organizing logistics and material handling.
  • Interpret and account for physical project constraints such as foundations, cranes, material movement, equipment size, and facility limitations when planning and executing work.
  • Act as a communication liaison for customers and third‑party service providers, ensuring accurate, timely, and professional information flow.
  • Gradually support and expand customer‑facing activities based on experience and comfort level, contributing to a positive customer experience.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and service providers to ensure scope alignment, clear expectations, and timely execution of their work.
  • Improve project visibility and accountability across teams by implementing and maintaining structured tracking and reporting practices.
  • Bring structure and discipline to project execution while adapting to a dynamic, build‑to‑order manufacturing environment.
  • Take ownership of coordination tasks currently handled by senior leadership, freeing them to focus on higher‑level strategic responsibilities.
  • Apply practical understanding of fabrication, welding, testing, and production workflows to anticipate issues and maintain smooth project execution.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects or workstreams, prioritizing tasks effectively and maintaining composure under pressure.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Process, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands‑on experience in a related field.
  • At least 3+ years of experience working within project management or project coordination, or as an engineer with significant project experience.
  • Experience working on physical, equipment‑based projects in manufacturing, industrial, or assembly environments.
  • Background working in or around assembly shops, heavy equipment, industrial equipment assembly, or process systems.
  • Practical understanding of fabrication, welding, integration, testing, and production workflows in an industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in MS Project for scheduling and tracking project milestones, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams for communication, documentation, and collaboration.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical and commercial information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to changing project demands and constraints.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating or managing projects involving large equipment, skids, machinery, or process systems.
  • Exposure to procurement, supply chain coordination, and vendor management activities.
  • Proactive, practical problem‑solving mindset with the ability to anticipate issues before they become costly.
  • Comfort working in a hands‑on, industrial environment with heavy equipment and complex mechanical systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience transitioning from an engineering or operations role into project coordination or project management.
  • Industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or mechanical engineering Background.
  • Experience with program management or managing multiple related projects in an industrial context.
  • Familiarity with assembly operations involving cranes, skids, machinery, and heavy industrial layouts.
  • Exposure to layout design for equipment, skids, or modular systems in manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with welding processes, testing integration, and commissioning of industrial equipment.
  • Knowledge of turbines, cooling systems, thermodynamics, or modular power generation and process systems.
  • PMP certification is a plus but not required.
  • Comfort working in a build‑to‑order, project‑based manufacturing environment where requirements and priorities can evolve.
  • Ability to understand and manage the consequences of missed logistics, late materials, or poor coordination on cost and schedule.

Work Environment

The role is based within a heavy industrial equipment manufacturing environment focused on engineering and manufacturing modular power generation and process systems. Projects run from initial design through in‑house testing under one roof, within a large production facility that handles complex mechanical assemblies, skids, and heavy equipment. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes mechanical design engineers at multiple levels, a supply chain coordinator, a project coordinator, and a project manager. The work involves frequent interaction with the shop floor, assembly areas, and testing operations, including exposure to cranes, large machinery, and material handling activities. The environment is dynamic and build‑to‑order, requiring adaptability to changing project priorities and schedules while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and effective coordination across engineering, production, and supply chain functions.
