Project Lead Designer

About the Role:

My client is seeking an Project Lead Designer to provide expert-level technical support in drafting, design, and engineering coordination for mechanical systems, including ductwork, piping, plumbing, custom-built air handling units, and controls. This position requires advanced design capabilities and strong leadership to support coordination, fabrication, and installation efforts. The ideal candidate will collaborate with fellow designers and field teams across multiple job locations to ensure seamless project execution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain 3D models and detailed drawings for takeoff, coordination, fabrication, installation, and project tracking, adhering to proper modeling and drafting standards.
  • Ensure all documents and models align with job specifications, contract documents, and submittal information.
  • Execute design drafting activities as directed by the Construction Design Manager.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of drawings and reports produced by the team.
  • Meet project deadlines and milestone dates, including overtime as required.
  • Conduct and lead project coordination meetings via GoToMeeting, Zoom, Teams, and Navisworks.
  • Manage document control to ensure all project documents are distributed appropriately.
  • Generate and validate reports supporting purchasing, estimating, QA/QC, and installation teams.
  • Perform onsite project observations, requiring physical capability to walk, climb ladders, and navigate construction environments.
  • Develop models and drawings for estimating and marketing teams.
  • Oversee project schedules for design/drafting tasks, ensuring efficient workflow among team members.
  • Provide daily updates to the EAS Construction Design Manager regarding project progress and issues.
  • Utilize project tracking tools such as Smartsheet, Trello, BIMTrack, and BIM360 Glue.
  • Participate in weekly project status meetings to discuss department updates, challenges, and upcoming initiatives.
  • Qualifications & Skills:
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and other BIM modeling software.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical system design, including ductwork, piping, and plumbing.
  • Excellent technical drafting and 3D modeling skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple teams across different project locations.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Experience with project tracking and document management platforms.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Willingness to travel to various project sites as needed.
