Our home office is located in Glen Allen, Virginia.Purpose Of JobSeeking a creative, energetic, and passionate engineering professional to serve as our Project Engineer - Transmission in the Glen Allen, VA home office. This position is responsible for developing, managing and executing generation and transmission projects from conception to completion. The individual will be instrumental in all aspects of project management for new construction, capital improvements and large maintenance projects.Essential ResponsibilitiesProject Management to include successfully executing approved projects within scope, budget and satisfaction of clientsManaging generation and transmission projects to include conceptualization, permitting, engineering, scheduling, budget control, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnoverDeveloping and maintaining budget and schedule controls for projects and supporting department budget developmentManaging and resolving all project issues that have technical, budget or schedule implicationsManaging engineering design review to include conceptual engineering, detailed engineering and management of associated data and correspondenceRecommending and supporting potential generation and transmission projects to improve asset reliability and availabilityManaging requests for proposals (RFPs) for engineering consultants and construction contractorsProviding operational and technical support for generation and transmission assetsCollaborating and partnering with engineering and operations staff, other internal departments, external consultants, contractors, other utility companies, and independent power producers (IPP)Prepares and presents technical recommendations and reportsWork Experience12 years' combined experience in electrical and/or mechanical engineering8 years' combined experience in power generation, transmission and/or distribution3 years' combined experience in project management and/or project engineeringCritical Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesTransmission experience requiredEffective communicator verbally and in writingAbility to multi-task and effectively manage time and meet deadlinesAbility to effectively work with ambiguityPreferred Knowledge And SkillsUtility industry experienceEducationBachelor of Science in engineering (BSEE or BSME preferred) or equivalent experience.Travel DetailsOccasional overnight travel required.Working Conditions And Physical DemandsInteract effectively with others through verbal communication, video, email and textConduct regular and safe travel via automobile for several overnights each month (approximately 35% annual travel)Ability to use a keyboard and monitor frequentlyFrequently perform fieldwork, which may involve walking over rough terrain during all types of weather conditionsFrequently spend a number of hours outdoors exposed to all weather conditions, typically in high voltage substations or power plantsWalking on uneven surfacesAbility to climb ladders, potentially several feet high, and walk on platformsOccasional heavy lifting and/or moving items up to 50 poundsAbility to see, smell and hear when conducting fieldwork and when on premises at high voltage substations or power plantsBenefitsWe offer a competitive salary, robust health benefits package, 401(k) company match, defined benefit retirement security (pension) plan, vacation accrual based on years of relevant experience, generous sick time accrual and other attractive benefits.
