P5 Consulting Services has been retained to identity a Project Engineer to join a highly respected Traffic Division for a well established, privately held multidisciplinary civil engineering firm in the Greater Sacramento area. This is a strong fit for a civil/electrical/traffic engineer who has real traffic design production experience and is ready to move into stronger task ownership, early project management, and client coordination.

Position Summary
The Project Traffic Engineer will manage and execute defined traffic engineering assignments under senior technical direction. The role bridges junior staff and senior management, with responsibility for producing accurate plans, specifications, estimates, analyses, reports, and design documentation. The right person will be comfortable owning assigned work, flagging risks early, supporting quality control, and communicating clearly with internal teams, agencies, clients, and contractors.
Core Responsibilities
- Prepare plans, specs, and construction cost estimates for traffic signals, roadway and streetscape lighting, ramp metering, transportation electrical systems, signing, pavement delineation, and construction stage traffic handling.
- Collaborate with team engineers/technicians to design traffic engineering projects from concept through final.
- Perform traffic and photometric analyses using appropriate software and agency standards.
- Apply traffic division standards, templates, design procedures, and quality control processes consistently.
- Take ownership of defined design tasks, budgets, schedules, and delivery commitments with limited supervision.
- Proactively flag scope changes, schedule risks, technical conflicts, or budget issues to the Senior Traffic Engineer or Project Manager.
- Coordinate traffic design with roadway, structural, civil, utility, and related discipline work.
- Support client and agency coordination meetings, present technical information when appropriate, and document action items.
- Respond to review comments and technical questions from agencies, clients, and contractors.
- Support proposal efforts with project specific technical input, example project descriptions, resumes, project sheets, and level of effort estimates.
- Provide informal mentoring to junior engineers, designers, and technicians on tools, standards, production discipline, and design fundamentals.

Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Three or more years of experience preparing plans, specifications, and estimates for traffic signals, lighting, ramp metering, transportation electrical systems, signing, pavement delineation, and construction stage traffic handling.
- California Professional Engineer registration in Civil, Electrical, or Traffic Engineering is preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation for traffic design and plan production.
- Working knowledge of Synchro, SimTraffic, VISUAL, and AutoTurn is preferred. Strong aptitude to become proficient will be considered.
- Ability to interpret and apply agency standards and guidelines related to traffic signals, lighting, signing, pavement delineation, and work zone traffic control.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver assigned work under agreed budgets and schedules with limited supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, constructible plans, specifications, estimates.
- Examplary written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and team collaboration.

Compensation and Benefits
The expected salary range is $100,000 to $145,000, based on experience, licensure, technical depth, and responsibility for stamping and delivering plans.
