Job OverviewThis position is primarily located at Naval Base Coronado North Island (NBCNI) and requires travel to Naval Base San Diego (NBSD), Naval Base Point Loma (NBPL), and Naval Base Coronado Naval Amphibious Base (NBC NAB). Receiving a moderate level of guidance and direction from the IW/OW Manager & IWOW Project Engineer, the Jr. Project Engineer is responsible for performing a range of mainly straightforward assignments to support the NAVFAC Environmental Services Industrial Waste and Oily Waste (IWOW) collection systems maintenance and operations (O&M) program. As they support the operation of the IWOW facilities throughout the San Diego metropolitan area, the Jr. Project Engineer will continue to build knowledge of the organization, our operational processes, and our Navy customers.Key Responsibilities/AccountabilitiesPerforms a range of mainly straightforward assignments, such as supporting and updating operations and maintenance manuals and standard operating procedures for the IWOW treatment plants.Prepares routine project progress reports and data tracking.Coordinates with in-house staff, Naval activity customers, equipment vendors, and consultants to ensure efficient wastewater treatment while actively building knowledge of the organization and customers.Uses prescribed guidelines, policies, codes, and regulatory requirements to analyze and resolve problems and generates or reviews documentation to demonstrate compliance with facility permit conditions.Assists in the operation and maintenance of storage and treatment equipment, and the installation of new equipment using the IWOW facility workforce and contractor resources.Supports the program as a MAXIMO resource, entering and updating IWOW assets and preventative maintenance tracking under moderate guidance and direction.Performs Quality Control (QC) and Health & Safety (H&S) inspections on repair and maintenance work across the IWOW plant, Bilge Oily Water Treatment System (BOWTS) pipelines, BOWTS pump stations, and associated appurtenances.Basic QualificationsB.S. in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Sanitary, or related Engineering discipline.Has working knowledge and experience in own discipline, specifically regarding environmental engineering principles, industrial systems, and plant operations.Prefer experience with wastewater treatment systems, including piping, pumps, valves, instrumentation, and controls.Prefer familiarity with prescribed guidelines and industry standards such as API, NFPA, NACE, STI, ANSI, UL, and ASTM International.Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on related experience.EIT or planning to obtain EIT.Strong computer skills (AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat). Computer programming skills and 3D printing experience is a plus.Complete HAZWOPER 40‑Hour training immediately after hire.Complete the Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM‑C) course within 6 months.As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $49.00 to $60.00 per hour.
