Job DescriptionJob DescriptionConstruction Project EngineerLocation : Indianapolis, INPOSITION SUMMARY:The Construction Project Engineer supports the project delivery team throughout the full lifecycle of commercial construction projects — from preconstruction through closeout. This role serves as the primary administrative and coordination hub for project documentation, subcontractor compliance, scheduling support, and owner communication. The Project Engineer works in close daily partnership with Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure projects are executed on time, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements. This position is an ideal entry point for a construction professional building toward a Project Manager role.CORE RESPONSIBILITIESProject Documentation & AdministrationMaintain and distribute project submittals, RFIs, change orders, meeting minutes, and correspondence throughout the project lifecycleTrack and manage all submittals and RFIs in Procore, ensuring timely responses and accurate distribution to relevant partiesAssist in the preparation and execution of subcontracts, purchase orders, and vendor agreementsManage project closeout documentation including as-built drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, lien waivers, and punch list trackingMaintain organized and current project files in accordance with document control standardsSchedule & Budget SupportAssist Project Managers in developing and maintaining project schedules; proactively flag delays, conflicts, or open itemsTrack project costs against approved budgets; prepare cost reports and assist with pay application review and processingSupport procurement efforts by soliciting subcontractor and supplier bids, comparing proposals, and coordinating scope review with the Project ManagerMonitor and log contract change events to support timely owner change order issuanceSubcontractor & Vendor CoordinationCoordinate subcontractor onboarding, including contract execution, insurance certificate (COI) collection, and compliance verificationTrack subcontractor open items, outstanding documentation, and deliverable deadlines to resolutionAssist with scheduling subcontractors and material deliveries in coordination with field SuperintendentsMaintain and update subcontractor contact logs, compliance matrices, and insurance expiration trackingField & Site SupportConduct regular site visits to document progress, photograph work in place, and support Superintendent needsAttend and participate in OAC meetings, subcontractor coordination meetings, and internal project reviewsAssist in identifying and logging field issues, RFIs, and non-conforming work for resolutionSupport job site safety documentation and coordinate compliance records with field personnelOwner & Stakeholder CommunicationPrepare and distribute meeting agendas, action item logs, and project status updates for owner and design team reviewMaintain accurate and professional written communications with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractorsAssist in preparing project reports and presentations for internal leadership review as neededSystems & ReportingMaintain current and accurate project data in Procore across all assigned projects, including drawings, specifications, and contract documentsGenerate and distribute standard reports from Procore and Foundation Accounting as directed by the Project Manager or Director of ConstructionSupport the continuous improvement of document management and project administration processesQUALIFICATIONSEducation & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands‑on experience will be consideredAt least 1–3 years of experience in commercial construction; internship or co‑op experience in a construction environment welcomedFamiliarity with commercial general contracting processes, contract structures, and project delivery methodsTechnical SkillsProficiency in Procore required or ability to become proficient quicklyStrong command of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and OutlookWorking knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documentsFamiliarity with Foundation Accounting or similar construction accounting platforms a plusProfessional AttributesHighly organized with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks, deadlines, and stakeholders across active projectsClear and professional written and verbal communicator; comfortable interfacing with subcontractors, owners, and design professionalsSelf-starter with strong follow‑through and a collaborative, team‑first mindsetCommitted to quality, accountability, and continuous improvement in project deliveryWe are an equal opportunity employer, and we are an organization that values diversity.
