    Project Engineer (Civil Site Development)

    Location: Charlotte, North Carolina

    Position Overview

    Industrial Pro Recruiting is conducting a confidential search for a Project Engineer to join a growing civil engineering team in the Charlotte market. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse mix of land development and site engineering projects while collaborating with experienced engineers, designers, planners, and project managers.

    The successful candidate will play an integral role in delivering projects from initial planning and permitting through final construction documentation. Project experience may include commercial developments, residential communities, healthcare facilities, higher education campuses, industrial sites, and mixed-use developments.

    This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer looking to expand technical responsibilities while contributing to a collaborative, growth-oriented organization.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Prepare and oversee civil site design packages from conceptual planning through construction.
    • Develop site layout, grading, utility, erosion control, storm drainage, and stormwater management plans.
    • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses supporting civil infrastructure design.
    • Coordinate with architects, surveyors, planners, environmental consultants, and other engineering disciplines.
    • Interpret and apply municipal, county, and state development regulations and engineering standards.
    • Prepare permit submittals and coordinate agency reviews.
    • Review engineering plans for technical accuracy, constructability, and regulatory compliance.
    • Manage project schedules, technical deliverables, and client expectations.
    • Provide technical guidance to engineering designers and junior staff.
    • Participate in project meetings with clients, contractors, and public agencies as needed.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
    • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
    • Minimum of 5–7 years of civil site development engineering experience.
    • Strong background designing commercial, residential, healthcare, higher education, industrial, or mixed-use projects.
    • Experience preparing grading plans, utility layouts, storm drainage systems, erosion control plans, and stormwater management designs.
    • Knowledge of permitting processes and regulatory requirements at the municipal, county, and state levels.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced consulting environment.

    Preferred Technical Skills

    • AutoCAD Civil 3D
    • Hydrology Studio or comparable hydraulic modeling software
    • EPANET or similar water distribution modeling software
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Experience with engineering document management and project collaboration platforms
