Job Title: Project Engineer - Electrical / MEP Inspector

Job Description

This role focuses on performing field inspections of electrical and MEP installations on an infrastructure project, ensuring work complies with plans, specifications, safety standards, and applicable codes. The project engineer documents daily construction activities, supports testing and commissioning of electrical systems, and collaborates closely with the project team to maintain quality and safety throughout the construction process.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspections of electrical installations, including duct banks, pull boxes, conduits, lighting systems, control panels, and related infrastructure.
  • Review construction plans, specifications, and applicable codes to verify compliance with contract documents and industry standards.
  • Monitor contractor activities on site to ensure adherence to safety regulations and quality requirements.
  • Prepare detailed daily inspection reports, including written observations, photographs, crew activities, and materials used.
  • Participate in testing, commissioning, and verification of electrical systems to confirm proper installation and performance.
  • Identify non-conformance issues, document them clearly, and report them to the appropriate parties for corrective action.
  • Assist in resolving non-conformance issues by coordinating with the project team and contractors to implement corrective measures.
  • Coordinate closely with the Resident Engineer and other inspectors to support smooth and efficient project execution.
  • Respond to and support the resolution of Requests for Information (RFIs) related to construction and MEP inspection activities.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe work site by applying OSHA principles and reporting unsafe conditions or practices.

Essential Skills

  • 3-10 years of experience in MEP inspection for infrastructure projects.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical inspection, including duct banks, conduits, lighting systems, control panels, and related infrastructure.
  • Experience in construction and MEP inspection on large infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical and construction codes, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Experience with Requests for Information (RFI) processes in a construction environment.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety practices and OSHA requirements.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Ability to produce clear, detailed daily inspection reports, including photos and documentation of crew activities and materials.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills for working with Resident Engineers, inspectors, contractors, and project teams.
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify, document, and track non-conformance issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in infrastructure projects involving electrical and MEP systems.
  • Experience working on construction inspection assignments with public agencies or large capital projects.
  • Familiarity with commissioning and verification procedures for electrical systems.
  • Comfort working in a field-based role on active construction sites.
  • Interest in gaining experience with construction management teams on major infrastructure programs.

Work Environment

This is an on-site inspector role for an infrastructure project in Brooklyn. The position is a 3-6 month temporary assignment, with work performed primarily in the field on an active construction site. The role involves regular presence outdoors and in partially completed structures, exposure to typical construction conditions, and adherence to site safety protocols and personal protective equipment requirements. The environment offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with a construction management team and public agency representatives while gaining experience on a significant infrastructure project. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
