Where you will workThe Augusta mill sits along the Savannah River, on the state border between Georgia and South Carolina and manufactures light, medium, and heavy weight coated paperboard. It is a well-invested SBS paperboard manufacturing facility with approximately 600 thousand tons of capacity. This facility boasts over 700 employees and has been in operation for almost 65 years. Located on 3,000 acres, the Augusta site operates two paper machines that produce 1,940 tons per day. The Augusta Mill is Clearwater Paper's largest paperboard facility and critical to the success of our strategy and future.What you will doThe Project Engineer is responsible for all mechanical and electrical related issues in projects as well as leading projects supporting two paper machines, power and recovery, pulp, woodyard, recaust, bleaching and sodium hypochlorite plant. Performs as a team member of various project teams where capital improvements have been identified against specific business issues. Also serves as a coordinator or clearing house of ideas for improvement techniques and implementation strategies. Understand and align business operations and Engineering in the execution of their role to exceed customer expectations and align with Clearwater Paper business, cultural, financial, and operational objectives. Actively leads and participates in the plant safety, housekeeping, and continuous improvement efforts.Planning & ExecutionDevelop, design, and estimate costs for the direct installation of electrical/mechanical products or plant systemsManage capital projects to deliver capital projects on time and on budgetAnalyze product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methodsDetermine feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factorsProvide technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planningDirect and coordinates manufacturing or building of machine improvements and/or plant systemsEvaluate engineering test results for possible application to developments of systems or other usesWork with maintenance to troubleshoot electrical/mechanical machine problemsLead and guide all work with piping systems, structural steel, and civil designConfer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical informationResearch and analyze design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applicationsSpecify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specificationsResearch, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principlesInvestigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crewSafetySupports mill and department goals in safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost, productivity, and continuous improvementSpecial ProjectsAs assignedKey Competencies & AttributesDemonstrated ability to effectively work with vendors, managers, and production employees to achieve goalsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsMust be capable of understanding and troubleshooting complex industrial systems and equipmentUnderstanding of LEAN manufacturing and Continuous Improvement (CI) concepts preferredProficient in Microsoft Office SuiteProficient in MS ProjectWhat you will needBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering3-5 years' capital project engineering experience, 2 of which should be in heavy industrial manufacturing.Self-directed and high initiative with ability to handle variety of tasks in a 24/7 manufacturing environmentKnowledge of a variety of project contracting strategiesMust be able to work with a diverse group of people in a professional manner and be able to handle several work tasks concurrentlyAble to work in a high-speed manufacturing environment, sustained exposure to high-frequency noises, multiple hours standing, walking on concrete surfaces, heat, and cold and mill environmentsAble to wear and abide by Personal Protective Equipment that is required in the mill environmentAble to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffoldingCould be exposed to hazardous chemicals used in the manufacturing processPotential for off-hour support including nights and weekendsTotal Rewards DetailsClearwater Paper will not offer sponsorship for employment‑based visa status (including, but not limited to, H‑1B visa status and other employment‑based nonimmigrant visas) for this position.
