Job Description:

  • The Mechanical Power Uprate Project Engineer functions as an Owner’s Engineer, coordinating the planning, design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases of a power uprate project.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the modification lifecycle to ensure engineering accuracy, regulatory compliance, and successful integration of new or upgraded systems and components.
  • Ensure engineering activities are executed in accordance with applicable quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Lead Responsible Engineer for planning, scoping, and technical evaluation of plant configuration changes.
  • Coordinate the development, review, and approval of engineering design documents, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, civil/structural, and instrumentation & controls, to ensure complete and accurate designs.
  • Oversee vendor development of fabrication details to ensure compliance with design requirements, quality standards, and procurement specifications.
  • Support installation planning through work instructions, field work packages, constructability reviews, and outage scheduling.
  • Provide field engineering support during installation and resolve technical issues while maintaining design intent.
  • Manage configuration control in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and plant modification processes.
  • Lead or support testing and commissioning activities, including development of test plans, acceptance criteria, and post-modification testing.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Licensing, and Work Management teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support project scheduling, engineering deliverables, risk management, and issue resolution.
  • Prepare and present technical documentation, design review packages, and engineering justifications to stakeholders.
  • Ensure engineering activities adhere to nuclear safety culture principles, human performance practices, and established procedures.
  • Support project turnover activities, including as-built documentation, configuration updates, training materials, and equipment ownership transition.
  • Provide onsite engineering support during refueling or forced outage activities as required.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in a nuclear power plant or with a related nuclear support organization.
  • Experience with engineering fundamentals and systems training in a U.S. commercial nuclear power plant.
  • Experience serving as a Responsible Engineer under a standard nuclear engineering design process.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing nuclear design analysis calculations for configuration and design basis control.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing installation testing and commissioning plans.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and resolve conflicting demands independently.
  • Availability to work shifts during project installation windows.
  • Previous power uprate project experience in a U.S. commercial nuclear facility is preferred.
  • Experience with SAP Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Master's degree in Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
