JOB TITLE:  Project Accountant
 
JOB SUMMARY:   We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Accountant to support the reconciliation and closeout of projects to ensure the timely release of funds. This position is responsible for maintaining compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable federal rules and regulations while analyzing and validating project funding costs. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with government agencies, local organizations, and internal departments to resolve project issues and support process improvements.
 
Hours:  8:00 am – 5:00 pm (Hybrid: 2 days in office and 3 days remote)
Pay:  $35.39
Location:  Phoenix, AZ 85007
Parking:  Free in lot
Type:  Temporary 
Start date:  Immediately upon passing background check
Duration:  1 year

DUTIES
  • Reconcile and close projects to ensure timely release of project funds 
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal rules, regulations, and reporting requirements 
  • Analyze and validate project costs and funding allocations 
  • Research and resolve financial and technical project issues 
  • Process accounting adjustments and prepare final voucher forms for submission 
  • Review, analyze, and interpret contract and financial data 
  • Apply accounting and auditing principles to project analysis and reporting 
  • Communicate with external agencies, local organizations, and internal departments regarding project funding and closeout activities 
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and provide recommendations 
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to project accounting activities
 
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field 
  • Minimum of 1 year of accounting experience 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to research and resolve financial and technical data issues 
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting contract and financial information 
  • Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Background check required
 
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working with government-funded projects or federally regulated programs 
  • Familiarity with federal compliance requirements and project funding processes 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
