The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of the company's roofing projects, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of project-related costs and revenues. This role maintains detailed financial records, oversees accounts receivable specific to projects, and monitors job cost performance to support profitability and budget adherence. This position collaborates closely with project managers, operations, and the finance team to deliver timely financial insights, ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies, and support informed project and operational decision-making.

roles, Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the company and individual roofing projects.
  • Manage accounts receivable, ensuring timely and accurate billing and payments.
  • Manage accounts receivable collections with weekly updates, department meetings and correspondence with customers.
  • Assist in job cost tracking and reconciliation for commercial, residential, and service roofing projects.
  • Perform monthly inventory adjustments to the GL and the MTO Form Tracking.
  • Reconcile WIPS on a weekly basis.
  • Prepare general ledger entries, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Assist with financial reporting, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and project reports.
  • Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to ensure accurate project cost tracking.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, GAAP, and internal controls.
  • Assist with audits and provide documentation as needed.
  • Support other accounting and finance functions as assigned.

Qualifications, Certifications, Educational Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, with a strong preference for project-based or construction/roofing industry experience.
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting practices.
  • Experience managing accounts receivable and general ledger functions in a project-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently with supervision.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple departments.
  • Demonstrated experience with job costing, project financial tracking, and revenue recognition methods.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work with a fast-paced team and environment.
  • Team-oriented with a proactive and problem-solving mindset.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while working on a computer, reviewing documents, and performing data entry.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for operating office equipment and computers.
  • Ability to lift and carry files or office supplies up to approximately 15-20 pounds as needed.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reachingwithin the office or during inventory or job site visits.

  • Work is performed in an office environment with frequent use of computers, phones, and other administrative tools
  • This position works standard work week but may be required to work some evenings and weekends to meet project milestones and deadline closings.
