Program Support Assistant

Duties

The Fisher House Program is a 40 suite guest/family comfort lodging facility built at select VA Hospitals/Medical Centers with a primary goal of bringing family members to the Veterans' bedside to facilitate their recovery from illness or injury. As a liaison of the Fisher House Program, the incumbent's duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Assists with Fisher House events and supply management, both of which require full knowledge and understanding of appropriated and non-appropriated accounts, to include general post funds and imprest funds (written checks).
  • Applies knowledge of appropriated and non-appropriated accounts to secure needed items and supplies for the guests' comfort, such as replacement items (i.e., linens, furnishings, food, etc.) and with planning of various programs in support of the guests (i.e., luncheons, holiday gifts, etc.).
  • The incumbent coordinates all files management and is responsible for the management of all equipment and supplies.
  • The incumbent resolves day-to-day problems related to the program and keeps the Fisher House Manager informed of situations than cannot be easily resolved or that may have an impact on guest safety or beyond the immediate scope of the program.
  • The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of standards, policies, and procedures and be able to execute independent judgment when challenged to interpret, adapt, or improvise any of the above to unusual, one-of-a- kind situations at hand.
  • The incumbent assists with monitoring the cleanliness and safety of the facility through daily observation of communal living areas and as directed, guest room checks.
  • The incumbent performs work related to the acquisition and/or development of program information and resource materials. They will extract, summarize, and compile information and assist in the development of resource materials such as hard-copy and computer based brochures and reports to promote program awareness among Veterans and their families, as well as the general population.
  • The incumbent provides administrative and clerical support necessary to support the management and coordination of both the Fisher House and Hotels for Heroes Programs. This work entails receipt of referrals via Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), assessment of eligibility, and response to referring source via replies and updates through CPRS.
  • The incumbent is responsible for ensuring accurate data collection, developing required monthly reports and meeting monthly report deadlines for forwarding through Richmond VAMC leadership, VISN, VACO Program Manager and the Fisher House Foundation

Work Schedule: 9:00am - 6:00pm, Monday - Friday, Various duties may include evenings and weekends.
