      • OPEN FOR INTERNAL & EXTERNAL CANDIDATES * BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The Program Specialist, under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, acts as a specialist to professional and paraprofessional personnel in the area of Special Education; facilitates instructional programs for students with handicaps; assesses program needs and implements activities to achieve program objectives. MAIN DUTIES: . Support Pre-School students who are in special education program that are fully included in the general education setting, . Support Pre-School students who require specialized academic instruction as part of the day, . Support with IEPs any time during the school day, and hold more IEP team meetings. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION: . Ability to travel to other sites / locations. . Knowledge of classroom management practices. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Credential: Education Specialist Instruction Credential / Early Childhood. Must meet ESEA Highly Qualified teacher requirements. Education: Earned Bachelor Degree including all courses in order to meet credential requirements. Master's Degree or Higher Degree in the field of education. Experience: Five (5) years of successful teaching experience in Special Education is required, in Pre-School Special Education preferred. Personal Qualities: Appearance, grooming, and personality which establish a desirable example for pupils. Ability to meet district standards for physical and mental health. Must have proven ability to relate well with students, parents, administrators, and teachers. Must possess good judgment, knowledge of school and district policies, and ability to reinforce appropriate school behavior.

Clearance (within 60 days) • Finger Print Clearance (Upon Hiring) All required documents need to be submitted via Edjoin by the deadline. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assist Special Education teachers and district office staff with curriculum development, implementation and classroom methodology of instruction in order to improve the academic performance of students. 2. Participates as a member of the IEP Team as appropriate. 3. Assists in setting up behavior management programs and/or learning centers in classroom programs on request. 4. Assists teachers in developing goals and objectives for annual reviews. 5. Provides assistance to department staff in planning, implementing, and evaluating staff development inservices for regular and Special Education staff. 6. Coordinates and implements parent education meetings. 7. Serves as liaison between county office and school districts participating in Mid-Cities Local Plan areas, as directed. 8. Assists in program evaluation for SELPA. 9. Visits sites and classrooms to monitor and provide technical advice concerning instructional activities. 10. Attends and conducts a variety of meetings, conferences, workshops, committees and in-services; assists with the development and implementation of various Special events and activities related to Special Education Programs.
