Job Description
The Program Specialist I, under general supervision, supports a fire department capacity building program by serving as the primary point of contact for program participants and providing technical and financial assistance. Responsibilities include processing applications, purchase orders, reimbursements and payment vouchers for accuracy, eligibility and compliance with policies and procedures. The Program Specialist maintains records, enters transactions in systems such as FireConnect, FAMIS and VFDAssist and helps educate customers on program requirements, timelines and financial processes. Occasional support for outreach and promotional events is also required.

Education and Experience:
Required Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Administration or related field.
Required Experience: None
Preferred Experience: One (1) or more years of experience using Texas A&M University's FAMIS and Canopy systems for processing financial transactions. Experience in auditing, accounting, customer service or business operation with a focus on reviewing financial documents, resolving customer inquiries and maintaining compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Familiarity with grant-related processes or public-sector program support is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required Knowledge: Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat.
Required Skills: Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail. Sound judgement.
Required Abilities: Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Registration, Certifications and Licenses:
Required: Texas Driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days.
