Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

CNNC advances the capacity of immigrants and refugees by building bridges between immigrant populations and existing communities throughout NC via community-based outreach and advocacy, educational programming, research and evaluation, immigrant and refugee leadership development, cultural brokering, and educational opportunities for faculty and students.

Position Summary

The Program Coordinator/Community Centers position will oversee service coordination and evaluation of CNNC Oakwood and Glen Haven Community Centers initiative. Assist in management of AmeriCorps project. Provide supervision of selected AmeriCorps members at CNNC Oakwood and Glen Haven Community Centers. Work with program directors and staff to develop integrated services program. Seek and apply for external funding to assist with community center support.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in a social science field or a Bachelor's degree in social science field with two years experience working with at risk and immigrant communities.
• Must be proficient in spoken and written Spanish and English and have an extensive knowledge and experience working with NC Immigrant communities.
• Must have training in Cross Cultural Human Services or comparable training and have a knowledge of the North Carolina human service systems.
• Must have valid driver's license and willingness to be trained in driving a 15-passenger van.

Community Center Coordination and Management

Essential Tasks

• Oversight and coordination of Community Center Program for CNNC through development and implementation of programming. There are currently 3 existing community centers in immigrant neighborhoods in Guilford County.
• This position will develop a program and coordinate services to meet changing community needs and evidence based practices as well as develop programs for additional sites as funding is obtained.
• Develop new projects and identify needs to address community needs and strengthen services to assure equitable integration of newcomers in the immediate area and state.
• Oversee current grants and contracts supporting the community center program and develop ideas for new funding sources.
• Write and submit grants.

Percentage Of Time 20% Key Responsibility

Community relations

Essential Tasks

• Manage and develop relationships of community partners such as residents, CNNC staff, AmeriCorps members and rental property management.
• Work as liaison when issues arise providing input and suggestions to lead to resolution.
• Notify appropriate individuals needed to weigh in on issues and reach resolution issues.
• Represent UNCG and CNNC at local meetings of boards such as Immigrant and Refugee Leadership, Refugee Consultations and State Refugee Council Meetings.
• Be active in international community initiatives to stay abreast of trends and needs.
• Responsible for public speaking to groups to make new connections and develop relationships.

CNNC Collaborations

Essential Tasks

• Work with CNNC leadership in the development of funding opportunities, submission and management of grants.
• Work with other areas serving the needs of immigrants and refugees within CNNC such as immigration services to insure full-service needs of the populations served.
• Provide input and insight into community needs and how to address within the strategic goals of CNNC.

Supervision and other duties

Essential Tasks

• The CNNC overall relies on an extensive volunteer base.
• This position will have overall supervision of the volunteer base.
• The position will supervise the Volunteer Coordinator and assist with the supervision and coordination of volunteers such as AmeriCorps members, student employees, interns and other volunteers to meet the needs of the community centers.
• Develop recruitment, retention and job performance plans to ensure quality service and adherence to university and state guidelines when working with minors and vulnerable populations.
• The CNNC uses a large number of volunteers to serve the immigrant and refugee population.
• The Community Center Program alone utilizes over 500 interns, AmeriCorps members, Service Learning students and volunteers.
• Oversight, recruitment, education and compliance of volunteers will be housed under this position and its staff.
• The position will oversee 2-3 EHRA staff as well as perform other duties as assigned.
