Jamaica Older Adult Center (OAC) | Jamaica, NY

The Position

Queens Community House (QCH) is seeking a compassionate, organized, and community-oriented Program Assistant to support the Jamaica Older Adult Center. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with older adults, has strong administrative skills, and is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for participants.

The Jamaica Older Adult Center serves older adults throughout the Jamaica community by providing social, educational, recreational, and supportive services that promote healthy aging, independence, and community engagement. The Program Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of daily center activities while helping connect older adults to meaningful programs and services.

Position Details

Status: Full-Time Compensation: $16.50 – $18.00 per hour Schedule: Monday – Friday, 35 hours per week Location: Jamaica, Queens, NY

What You'll Do

  • Administrative & Clerical Support
  • Welcome and assist participants, visitors, and community members in person and by phone.
  • Create and distribute flyers and promotional materials for programs and events.
  • Register new members and maintain participant records.
  • Support daily office operations and maintain organized files and documentation.
  • Data Entry & Reporting
  • Enter daily program activity units into STARS/PeerPlace.
  • Verify and reconcile activity logs with system records.
  • Prepare monthly activity reports and submit required documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Database Manager to ensure participant and program information remains accurate and current.
  • Program Operations & Outreach
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of meals, activities, and special events.
  • Support daily program operations and participant engagement.
  • Participate in community outreach efforts to increase awareness and participation in center activities.
  • Professional Development
  • Maintain compliance with agency performance standards and program requirements.
  • Attend required trainings and staff meetings.
  • Contribute to program evaluation efforts and annual training planning.
Qualifications

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two years of administrative, office support, or customer service experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with older adults.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, databases, and data entry systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Russian, and/or Chinese.
  • Experience with basic accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Previous experience working with older adults or in a social service setting.
