Job Description:Production Supervisor

Overview
The Production Supervisor is responsible for the direct oversight, supervision, training, development, and support of our production. The incumbent is responsible for providing and promoting a workplace compliant with all Federal, State, and Local Industrial Standards.
Responsibilities
- Ensures shift employees are following safe work practices and procedures consistently and completely. Audits for compliance and addresses safety issues in a timely manner
- Works safely and is proactively involved in plant safety improvement efforts
- Leads, assists, motivates, and evaluates shift employees in daily operations, problem resolution, and promotes culture of continuous improvement
- Ensures shift employees follow all SQF and GMP policies and procedures and provides immediate correction of violations
- Conducts safety and job function training for shift personnel
- Trains employees in proper procedures, coaches them to improve results, and evaluates performance while providing feedback
- Troubleshoots and resolves process, equipment, and material issues in conjunction with machine operators and support personnel. Works to find root cause and provide corrective/preventive measures
- Interprets shop orders and specifications to shift employees, as necessary
- Studies and understands production schedule and deploys available labor and other resources, as required
- Spot checks product quality and ensures specifications are being met and quality procedures are being followed
- Recommends measures to improve safety, production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and reduction of waste
- Suggests changes in procedures, labor utilization, use of equipment, and materials to increase efficiency of plant, shift, department, or work cell
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate employees to achieve company and site KPI’s
- Double-checks, ensure accuracy, and finalizes production paperwork including production reports, work order documentation, safety and sanitation documents, quality records, finished goods tickets, etc.
- Cross-functional teamwork with HR for payroll processing, personnel or labor issues, and staffing
- Interprets company policies, rules and regulations to employees and holds them accountable as such
- Communicates regularly and effectively with in-coming and off-going shift leaders about issues occurring on previous, current, or following shift
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree not required but preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of successful production supervision experience, preferably in a unionized manufacturing environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with the willingness and ability to learn new systems
- Ability to effectively communicate information both verbally and in writing to various groups of personnel
- Ability to deal well with change and handle conflict resolutions
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus
- Must be accountable and self-driven to learn and continuously strive for improvement
- A team player who interacts effectively with co-workers in a group or independent cooperative activities
- Must have strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- SQF experience a plus
- Packaging manufacturing experience preferable
Compensation
A reasonable estimate of the current range is $66,000 - $85,000 + bonus + benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by job related skills, experience and relevant education or training. At Novolex, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
