Job Description:

The Production Supervisor- 2nd Shift is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the production floor, ensuring that all processes are running smoothly, efficiently, and safely. This role involves leading and training a team of associates, maintaining production schedules, ensuring quality standards are met, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Production Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring the overall success of the production line by managing resources, troubleshooting issues, and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • At the direction of the Production Manager, ensure 2nd shift resources are allocated effectively.
  • Supervise daily production schedules to ensure on-time delivery while maintaining strict quality control standards, safety standards, and minimizing defect rates.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the production floor, ensuring all workstations are properly staffed, and production schedules are met.
  • Monitor production progress and ensure adherence to daily, weekly, and monthly production goals.
  • Ensure that all assembly processes follow work instructions, assembly drawings, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the staffing agency to communicate performance feedback and concerns while maintaining proper co-employment boundaries. Ensure all discipline and employment decisions are routed through the agency, provide timely and factual, data-driven information to allow them to make decisions, and reinforce expectations consistently with both agency representatives and assigned associates.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including engineering, quality, and supply chain to align production with broader company goals and ensure smooth operations.
  • Conduct daily tier meetings, manage labor allocation across lines, and deliver performance feedback or training to associates.
  • Conduct regular coaching and provide feedback to team members to foster their professional growth.
  • Assign tasks and adjust staffing based on production needs, ensuring the most efficient use of labor.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment by encouraging teamwork and open communication.
  • Ensure that all products meet established quality standards and specifications by monitoring production processes and conducting regular quality audits.
  • Utilize the Magpul ERP system for work transactions and inquiries. 
  • Work with quality teams to resolve any product defects or inconsistencies, implementing corrective and preventive actions as needed.
  • Collaborate on root cause analysis for recurring quality issues and drive initiatives to improve product consistency and reduce defects.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for process optimization, waste reduction, and efficiency improvements.
  • Lead and sustain Lean Manufacturing initiatives (such as 5S, waste reduction, and daily stand-ups) to optimize workflow.
  • Lead and participate in kaizen (improvement) events to improve workflows, reduce cycle times, and increase productivity.
  • Ensure that all production activities are performed in compliance with safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and ensure that any hazards are promptly addressed to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Promote a safety-first culture by leading safety training programs, ensuring the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and addressing safety concerns raised by employees.
  • Maintain detailed safety and compliance records, reporting incidents and near misses to management as required.
  • Oversee the flow of materials and inventory, ensuring that production lines are consistently supplied with the necessary components.
  • Ensure the timely and efficient transport of finished products to the FG staging area for further processing.
  • Evaluate equipment needs and make recommendations for new machinery or upgrades to improve production capabilities.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production output, downtime, efficiency, and quality metrics.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between 2nd‑shift production and key departments, including engineering, quality, logistics, and 1st‑shift leadership, to ensure alignment on priorities, relay critical updates, and resolve issues that arise during evening operations.
  • Participate in meetings with senior management to provide updates on production performance, challenges, and initiatives.
  • Lead training initiatives for new hires and current employees, ensuring that all team members are properly trained in safety protocols, equipment operation, and production processes.
  • Continuously assess training needs and provide opportunities for skill development, promoting a culture of learning and growth within the production team.
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for complex production issues, providing timely solutions and ensuring minimal disruption to the production process. 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate effectively with limited on‑site direction during 2nd‑shift hours while maintaining alignment with daily production goals. Demonstrated ability to develop teamwork, reinforce expectations, and maintain a positive, productive shift culture.
  • Must maintain a professional work environment and appearance. 
  • Ability to lead and motivate all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to analyze problems and present solutions.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to relay shift updates, escalate issues, and document activities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities such as staffing, equipment needs, quality concerns, and production targets.
  • Enthusiastic, cooperative, and positive behavior.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.); ability to learn new programs.
  • Experience with tier 2 ERP systems a plus.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet production deadlines.
  • Proven commitment to safety, including enforcing safe work practices and addressing hazards promptly.
  • Strong understanding of assembly processes, equipment operation, and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and support the growth of a diverse team of associates.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify issues and implement effective solutions.
