Job Description:

Production Shift Supervisor

Huntsman is seeking a Production Shift Supervisor supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in McIntosh, AL. This position will report to the Manager, Production.

Job Scope

Supervises associated production employees within the assigned process areas to ensure compliant, effective, and efficient operation of process units and utility systems. Provides leadership and models behavior expected to meet Huntsman standards and Core Values. Champions Zero Harm with their team and promotes regional and site strategies.

In summary, as the Production Shift Supervisor, you will:

• Responsible for ensuring continued compliance with all safety (including Process Safety) and environmental policies and procedures for areas of responsibility. Serves as Incident Commander for any emergency or event requiring shelter-in-place.
• Responsible for managing assigned production employees in the areas of orientation, work assignments, training compliance, employee development, and performance management, including coaching, counseling, performance reviews, and corrective actions.
• Achieve operation and production goals with units operating at target rates and on spec within equipment and environmental limitations.
• Maintain accurate records, process metrics & documentation according to guidelines, and prepare both regular and non-normal reports as needed. Maintain accurate shift logs and prepare required documentation.
• Manage overtime for Operations personnel appropriately to always ensure safe operations of all units.
• Communicate with both internal and external customers (i.e. raise issues and concerns to management, orders necessary materials & supplies, interfaces with engineering, etc.).
• Perform regular line walks of all Units to ensure good housekeeping, Safety and Area Procedure Compliance, Safety Hazard Recognition, etc. as part of their Leader Standard Work.
• Focal point for managing Safe Systems of Work on their shift.
• Oversee any embedded contractors on their shifts.
• Responsible for ensuring incident reports are submitted for any incident occurring on their shift including any data gathering and preliminary investigations.
• Conduct regular Process Confirmations to ensure compliance with procedures.
• Support the Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Prevention Program by ensuring compliance and coaching team on the importance of the program and impact to quality.
• Responsible for communicating to Management and to their team pertinent information on issues, concerns, schedule changes, quality concerns, etc.
• Facilitate daily Tier 1 (shift meeting) meetings with team to review turnover information, ZH, and work assignments and any other pertinent information. Follow standing agenda set for meetings.

Other general responsibilities:
• Manage operations effectively during resource‑constrained shift conditions.
• Manage operations effectively during resource-constrained shift conditions taking into consideration business priorities.
• Support site 5S/6S programs and other Continuous Improvement efforts.
• Participate in incident investigations as required.
• Participate in and complete company-required training programs.
• Participate in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

Education required

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in a directly related role within the relevant field.
  • Hold an associate’s degree in Process Technology, Operations Management, or a closely related discipline, plus at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • 7 years of full-time operating experience in a related field will be considered in lieu of an associate’s degree.

Skills and knowledge

  • Must pass Huntsman’s Process Safety Technical Review within 1 year of assignment.
  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs.
  • Experience working shifts in Chemical Manufacturing industry.
  • Experience working in a 24/7 manufacturing process.
  • Must have good analytical, problem solving, and leadership skills.
  • Must have a solid understanding of safety, Process Safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Communicates tactfully and effectively both verbally and in writing and maintains effective work relations with those encountered during the course of employment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and/or dynamic organizational priorities are critical for job success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean Certification desired.

Working Environment

  • Rotate shift requirements.
  • Regular call-in requirements.
  • Manage operations in a 24/7 manufacturing process environment.
