Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 4 months
  • Pay Rate: $27.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: 12-hour shifts (2-2-3) rotating between day shift and night shift every two weeks.

Job Summary

Mt. Vernon, Indiana is located about 20 miles west of Evansville, along the Ohio River. The site in Mount Vernon was founded in 1973 and produces a wide variety of products, including both residential and commercial roofing materials. The 88-acre site is currently undergoing many exciting changes, including the addition of a new on-site warehouse and expanded operations. Production Operators perform work that is required to manufacture shingle or rolled roofing products, along with related safety, housekeeping, shut down, cleanup, startup, and maintenance work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for safe operation of equipment; preventing damage to equipment and preventing injuries
  • Participates fully as a member of the crew during downtime and start-up, product changes, operational problems, and clean up
  • Assists in sheet breaks, threading machine and product changes
  • Will assist in clearing machine jams to keep product moving
  • Responsible for basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and cleaning of assigned equipment
  • Completes product testing in accordance with product specification and records data on applicable sheets or computer systems; keeps the supervisor informed of variations in the production process at all times
  • Maintains work area in neat and orderly condition per housekeeping procedures for the department
  • Operates forklift in a safe and efficient manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Works safely

Required Skills

  • Ability to take measurements using a tape measure
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to contribute to a continuous improvement environment

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • PPE / Dress Code Required: Steel-toe shoes, long-sleeve shirt, and long pants required at all times; no dangling jewelry
  • Ability to wear and use required safety equipment, including safety glasses, steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection, head protection, and gloves
  • Employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; raise and lower objects without mechanical aids; extend hands and arms in any direction to reach, push, or pull objects; bend at the knees and at the waist; and to talk or hear
  • Frequently required to stand for long periods of time, walk, balance when assisting in the thread-up of the machine, and climb industrial ladders and use catwalks and stairs in the work area
  • Must have the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., frequently lift and/or move 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 lbs.; product and raw materials in excess of 50 lbs. must be moved with two employees
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • May be exposed to fiberglass mat, asphalt, granules, fumes, or airborne particles that fall below OSHA PELs
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to vibration from machines
  • Occasionally works in high places when assisting with thread-ups and above the floor level on catwalks and/or stairs; exposed seasonally to hot and cold weather
  • Noise level in the work environment requires hearing protection
