Job Overview

The Seasonal Production Manager will be responsible for managing various aspects of production for Macy's Studios events; with specific focus on regional holiday attractions. Additional responsibilities will include Fourth of July Fireworks bridge execution, Macy's Santaland prep support, and on-site Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade support. This position will support the Manager of Production Operations with executing these annual events with a focus on continuous innovation for the department.

What You Will Do

  • Responsible for overseeing Fourth of July Bridge execution for setup, show day and removal with third party vendors.
  • Work with vendors and city agencies to adhere to schedule and execute along with problem solving challenges with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Responsible for managing the process of all production & operational planning of remote holiday installations
  • Support additional holiday attractions throughout the season at regional locations in Chicago and clean up past holiday events in other markets, where applicable.
  • Coordinate with governing stakeholders to secure permitting & preparations for installations and events as necessary
  • Support additional seasonal hiring planning as necessary to support operations
  • Manage & lead seasonal staff and third-party vendors for all pertaining events - while partnering and adhering to respective cities permitting guidelines.
  • Act as liaison between internal and external partners, including vendors, facilities management, security, and inter-departmental teams.
  • Manage event budgets, large and small. Including writing contracts, purchase orders, tracking various event budgets.

Skills You Will Need

Production and Operational Planning: Ability to manage production and planning for holiday installations, removals, and Universal parade elements

Leadership and Vendor Management: Experience in leading and managing seasonal staff and third-party vendors while adhering to permitting guidelines

Liaison Skills: Strong ability to serve as a liaison between internal and external partners, including vendors, facilities management, security, and inter-departmental teams

Budget Management: Proficiency in overseeing event budgets, including writing purchase orders and tracking expenditures

Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with lighting and sound system setups, and a basic understanding of electrical requirements for on-location events

Problem Solving: Ability to anticipate obstacles and solve problems creatively under pressure and tight deadlines

Multi-tasking: Capability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment

Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Strong skills in interpersonal communication and negotiation

Customer Service Experience: Experience in providing excellent customer service

Independence: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Physical Stamina: This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Who You Are

Education/Experience

  • BA/BS degree with 10+ years of project management experience preferably with large scale event productions
  • Prior experience working in a production field (i.e. television/film production, event coordination, etc.) required
  • Familiarity with lighting/ sound system set-ups and a basic understanding of electrical requirements necessary for events on-location
  • Intuition and foresight to anticipate obstacles, and ability to creatively solve problems under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Vendor management experience
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Multi-tasking

Communication Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Customer service experience

Reasoning Ability:

  • Must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Present a professional image consistent with Macy''s brand values

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged sitting or standing (more than 2 hours) should be anticipated
  • Heavy lifting (over 50lbs) and getting dirty should be expected in this position

Other Skills:

  • Basic computer skills. Experience with Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, Publisher preferred
  • Organizational skills including strong prioritization and flexibility

Work Hours:

  • Flexible with scheduling and available to work retail hours which will include some evening, weekends and/or holidays. Working Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, and Christmas Eve should be expected.
