ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for ensuring that the Craft Supervisors have completed an executable daily production plan and have been provided the necessary, tools, drawings, material, personnel and leadership to execute the work safely. 
  • Monitors workers compliance with company, governmental and environmental regulatory policies and procedures in order to ensure a safe work environment. Takes immediate corrective measures when requirements are not met.
  •  Leads Craft Supervisors in resolving any issues and eliminating barriers that may compromise the successful completion of work to plan and elevate those issues they are unable to resolve.
  • Responsible for identifying and aligning external labor resources when required to support the execution of the project.
  • Manages employee performance by recognizing and rewarding exceptional performance and holding people accountable for not meeting expectations through verbal and written documentation.
  • Responsible for quality metrics pertaining to craft specific work.
  • Conduct supervisor orientation of new hires. Perform 30/90 day evaluation of new hires.
  • Ensures all workers are trained to perform tasks assigned to them.
  • Ensures all workers have accurate schedules in timekeeping system and all time charges are accurate to projects.
  • Ensure all workers regularly update their OJT books for advancement.
  • Post requisitions, review, hire and disposition job applicants for hourly craft positions.
  • Promoting/enforcing PPE, discussing job hazard analysis, and accident prevention. Follow all OSHA, other regulatory rules and company safety policies. 
  • Coordinate work scopes and other yard priorities with Craft Supervisors.  
  • Understand and implement company and departmental policies/procedures. 
  • Promote and develop efficiency improvement plans interfacing with CPI initiatives 
  • Responsible for cost controls and improvements regarding tools and consumables  

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:   

  • Liaison between management and the working crews regarding communications relative to performance on safety, quality, budget and schedule.
  • Participates in identifying aspects of projects that went well, as well as opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist Talent team with Job fairs and recruiting events.

 

JOB SCOPE:   

Must use sound judgment and independent decision making when carrying out job responsibilities. The role reports to the Director of Operations. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:   

The team in total is composed of up to 200 employees, which includes Craft Supervisors and hourly craft employees of various trade disciplines. In depth knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreements for the various trades.

 

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:

The Production Craft Managers coordinate teaming efforts with other managers and supervisors at various levels in the business unit. The position represents the Company through formal and informal interactions with the customer, regulatory body inspectors and union business agents/ shop stewards. 

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written for constant interaction with all departments and employee levels and outside customers.
  • Handle competing priorities and deadlines effectively and respond well to last minute, high priority, time sensitive issues and projects.
  • Lead, manage and motivate people in a production environment. 
  • Handle the pressure of constant interruptions. 
  • A well-organized, detail oriented self-starter.
  • Able to schedule, direct and organize work within a diverse department and coordinate work with other departments to maintain efficiency.
  • Facilitate group decision-making, team building and conflict resolution. 
  • React and perform in emergency situations.
  • Analytical ability to research problem areas and special requests.
  • Familiar with budgeting, estimating, planning and scheduling principles.
  • Use PC and software applications such as MS Office and database programs.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, environmental and other regulations.
