Tasks and Responsibilities:

Key Daily Role Elements

  • Provide technical assistance for shop personnel. Follow-up requests for information and for clarification of specifications and standards related to the conformity of products to ensure customer quality standards are met and delivery needs satisfied.
  • Be a visible presence on the shop floor as a decision-making resource. A technical liaison between inspection, quality and engineering, providing technical guidance to inspection personnel and providing feedback to the technical team on product quality issues.
  • Oversight of inspection personal and functions including IDR review and disposition and initiation of DMR's.
  • Provide oversight for preparation and presentation for customer source inspections including virtual inspections.
  • Work with the technical team on investigations of nonconforming products and provide insight for the corrective action/preventive action (CAPA)
  • Conduct data analysis on items such as SPC charts, run charts, etc., to look for trends that can lead to nonconforming products. Conduct Gage R&R studies and Cpk analysis as needed.
  • Manage CMM programming, Nonconformance /CAPA process, calibration, and other inspection equipment.

Production and Assembly Support

  1. Apply knowledge of customer quality requirements to assist in the disposition of findings identified by inspectors and operators in all areas of the facility. (Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, receiving inspection, first piece inspection, in process and final inspection, calibration, gage and equipment procurement)
  2. Participate in production meetings and other routine and scheduled meetings to provide Quality input and actions to resolve issues to meet daily manufacturing needs.

Personnel (People Management)

  1. Reports - Production inspectors, CMM inspectors, 1st PC inspectors, Calibration attendant, receiving inspectors, CMM programmer, MRB Quality Engineer.
  2. Labor Reporting and metric monitoring (Utilization, Efficiency)
  3. Interview candidates for inspector roles.
  4. Develop subordinates skill sets for inspectors
  5. Motivate, Discipline
  6. Understand and apply policies of the Bargaining Unit Contract
  7. Manning (Staffing and Scheduling)
  8. Goal Setting / blue chip process

Training

  1. Conduct training as required. (Inspectors, CMM programming, calibration)

Continuous Improvement

  1. Data analysis of nonconformances, SPC - support incorporation of process improvements
  2. CMM programming optimization. Reduction of bench inspection
  3. Inspection cell efficiency - improve IDR process, IMS books.
