Job Title: Product Owner

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Product Owner to serve as the critical bridge between our diverse stakeholder groups and engineering team. This role requires a deep understanding of educational technology, strong product management skills, and the ability to translate complex curriculum requirements and operational needs into actionable product features. The Product Owner will manage the entire product development lifecycle, from requirements gathering through sprint execution and delivery. 

Key Responsibilities

Stakeholder Management & Requirements Gathering

  • Partner closely with the Curriculum and Instruction team to understand pedagogical requirements and translate learning objectives into product features 

  • Collaborate with Tutor Operations team to identify workflow improvements, operational efficiencies, and tools needed to support tutors and students 

  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify product opportunities and feature gaps 

  • Gather and prioritize feedback from students, tutors, parents, and internal stakeholders 

  • Facilitate requirements workshops and stakeholder alignment sessions 

Product Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and maintain the product roadmap in alignment with business objectives and educational goals 

  • Define product vision, strategy, and success metrics for the virtual tutoring platform 

  • Conduct user research and analyze usage data to inform product decisions 

  • Create detailed product requirements documents (PRDs) and user stories 

  • Prioritize features based on educational impact, business value, and technical feasibility 

Agile Development & Sprint Management

  • Lead sprint planning, backlog grooming, and sprint reviews with the engineering team 

  • Write clear, detailed user stories with acceptance criteria and definition of done 

  • Manage product backlog and ensure proper prioritization of features and bug fixes 

  • Facilitate daily standups and remove blockers to maintain development velocity 

  • Conduct retrospectives and drive continuous improvement in development processes 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with UX/UI designers to create intuitive, education-focused user experiences 

  • Collaborate with QA team to ensure product quality and educational effectiveness 

  • Partner with Customer Success and Support teams to address user needs and pain points 

  • Coordinate with Marketing team on product launches and feature communications 

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Computer Science, Business, or related field 

  • 3-5 years of product management experience in edtech  

  • Proven experience working with curriculum development and instructional design  

  • Strong background in agile methodologies and sprint management 

  • Experience with virtual learning platforms or tutoring services preferred 

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in product management tools (Jira, Confluence, ProductBoard, etc.) 

  • Experience with analytics tools (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.) 

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and educational compliance requirements (FERPA, COPPA) 

  • Basic understanding of web and database technologies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with data-driven decision making 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Ability to translate complex educational requirements into technical specifications
