Headquartered in Louisville, Colorado with offices in the U.K. and Denmark, we are one global company with a common vision and mission to provide the best possible enterprise mobile experience for our customers.
Want to know the best thing about working for our company? The people. Working at Spectralink means innovation with authority and collaboration among industry experts with uncompromising integrity and agility. Our employees have a chance to make powerful contributions every day. We want to hear from you if you possess the following skills and qualifications, and are ready to join our team of positive, authentic, dedicated, and innovative thinkers.
Spectralink is hiring a Director of Product Management to own DECT product strategy and on-device software experiences that help us expand, win share, and differentiate in mission-critical markets (healthcare, manufacturing, retail, hospitality, logistics, and beyond). This is currently an Individual Contributor role at the Director Level.
This role is intentionally software-only: you will lead the handset/portable on-device software and embedded experience portfolio—including staff duress/worker safety workflows, alarms & notifications, voice logic, UX/navigation, identity/access experiences, telemetry hooks, and interoperability behaviors implemented on the device, alongside UCaaS integrations with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and others. Hardware and DECT infrastructure (bases/servers/platform hardware) are owned by our Director of Product Management – Hardware.
You’ll work cross-functionally end-to-end—engineering, QA, sales, marketing, services, operations, and executives—to ensure we build the right capabilities, deliver them with high quality, and launch them in a way the business can market, sell, bill for, and support on Day 1.
What success looks like (12–18 months)
- A crisp DECT strategy (markets, segments, positioning, partner plays) with measurable share-growth bets.
- A shipped roadmap that strengthens our market position, alongside clear OKRs
- Improved release predictability and product outcomes through modern, end-to-end product management practices (discovery, strategy, problem framing → evidence → options/tradeoffs → delivery → GTM → adoption/learning loops).
- Better cross-functional alignment with stronger requirements, earlier risk visibility, and clearer launch readiness, alongside stronger market alignment and measurable market outcomes.
Key responsibilities
1) Own DECT strategy (growth + differentiation)
- Define and maintain the multi-year DECT strategy focused on software-led differentiation and market expansion.
- Lead market understanding: customer problems, workflows, buying dynamics, partner ecosystem needs, and competitor positioning.
- Translate strategy into clear portfolio outcomes (share, adoption, attach, retention, NPS, reliability metrics).
2) Own the on-device DECT software portfolio
In scope (you own):
- On-device worker safety (e.g., staff duress), alarm escalation UX, notification patterns, event handling, UCaaS integration with Microsoft Teams, Zoom and other providers, alongside other market growth potential opportunities that you will identify.
- On-device voice behaviors: call flows, audio UX, messaging, location, presence/status behaviors (where applicable)
- Embedded UX: menus, navigation, contact/directory experiences, usability/accessibility
- Device-level reliability/performance behaviors and instrumentation hooks (telemetry requirements, diagnostics)
- On-device interoperability behaviors with UCaaS/PBX, alarm platforms, workflow systems
Out of scope (partner closely, but do not own):
- DECT hardware, DECT handsets, DECT servers/base stations, hardware lifecycle, and infrastructure platform decisions (owned by Director of PM – Hardware)
3) Own the DECT On-Device Software Roadmap, Discovery, and Delivery
- Own and maintain a multi-horizon roadmap (near-, mid-, and long-term) for DECT on-device software that directly supports Spectralink’s product portfolio strategy, growth, differentiation, and market share expansion goals.
- Translate company strategy, DECT strategy, and customer evidence into clear roadmap themes, outcomes, OKRs, and supporting products, capabilities, and features.
- Establish evidence-driven problem definitions and success metrics before committing roadmap capacity.
- Balance strategic alignment, innovation, technical sustainability, quality, risk, and commercial impact when shaping roadmap priorities.
- Clearly articulate tradeoffs, sequencing decisions, capacity constraints, value propositions, and anticipated market impact to executives and cross-functional partners.
- Ensure roadmap readiness by validating:
- Clear problem statements and customer value
- Market and competitive evidence
- Product definition to epic-level, including high-level functional and non-functional requirements
- Technical feasibility and dependency awareness (in partnership with Engineering)
- Commercial impact and GTM implications
- Write clear product requirements that include use cases, functional and non-functional requirements, constraints, edge cases, and acceptance criteria, and partner with DECT software engineering leads to create Jira epics/stories and manage Jira backlogs.
- Drive prioritization using customer value, strategic fit, effort/risk, quality, and commercial outcomes.
- Regularly review roadmap and delivery performance using adoption, quality, customer outcomes, and business metrics, adjusting based on learning and market feedback.
- Serve as the single source of truth for DECT on-device software roadmap intent, priorities, and outcomes across the organization.
This role is accountable for what and why we build on-device software, while working closely with Engineering on how and when it is delivered.
5) Delivery Execution, Quality, and Release Readiness
- Partner closely with DECT software engineering leads throughout delivery to ensure roadmap intent is translated into clear, actionable Jira stories.
- Ensure Jira stories include well-defined acceptance criteria aligned to functional and non-functional requirements, customer workflows, and quality expectations.
- Collaborate with Engineering and QA to ensure product requirements are testable, traceable, and support effective test plans, test cases, and validation scenarios.
- Participate in backlog refinement and key delivery ceremonies as needed to clarify intent, resolve ambiguity, and enable efficient execution.
- Work with ODM partners, as needed, in coordination with Engineering and Hardware Product Management, to ensure on-device software requirements, acceptance criteria, and validation expectations are clearly understood and met. Manage meetings, project timelines, scope, and costs with ODM partners as appropriate. Ensure ODM deliverables are made on time, in budget and of high quality.
- Support ODM software deliverables, when needed, by reviewing requirements alignment, participating in defect triage and prioritization, and ensuring issues impacting customer outcomes or release readiness are addressed.
- Define and own device software KPIs, including stability, latency, audio quality, battery impact, crash rates, defect escape rate, and alarm/workflow reliability.
- Partner with Engineering and QA to define an appropriate test strategy and a practical definition of ready/done that reflects embedded and real-time software realities.
- Identify quality, reliability, performance, and dependency risks early; ensure mitigation is reflected in backlog priorities and release planning.
- Validate that delivered capabilities meet intended customer outcomes and quality thresholds, not just technical completion, prior to release sign-off.
- Own release readiness for software-led capabilities, including training, documentation, support playbooks, partner enablement, and GTM handoff.
- Use delivery, testing, and field feedback to continuously improve requirements clarity, backlog quality, release confidence, and customer outcomes.
6) Cross-functional leadership (including executives)
- Operate as the single-threaded leader for DECT on-device software outcomes while collaborating tightly across:
- Hardware PM leadership (interface contracts, lifecycle alignment, synchronized releases)
- Platform/device management PM leadership (provisioning, policy, updates, analytics integration points)
- Sales, Marketing, Services, Operations (GTM readiness and feedback loops)
- Communicate crisply with executives: decisions needed, tradeoffs, risks, milestones, and measurable outcomes.
7) Commercial and portfolio management
- Build business cases: pricing/packaging inputs (where applicable), margin/COGS sensitivities, adoption forecasts, and ROI logic.
- Clear buy/build/partner analysis and long-term commercial planning to include how we will market, sell, support, and bill for 3rd party relationships.
- Track adoption and field signals turn escalations into structured learning and roadmap adjustments.
Qualifications
Required
- 8–12+ years of proven end-to-end product management experience leading cross-functional teams to launch and scale products where software runs on constrained or embedded devices, including experience in one or more of the following domains:
- Rugged or industrial devices
- Medical devices or regulated environments
- Automotive infotainment or telematics
- IoT / embedded systems
- VoIP or real-time communications
- Wireless communications
- Telecommunications
- Or related hardware + software product environments
- Proven track record owning a software, API, and/or firmware roadmap for commercial hardware or mobile devices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead end-to-end product management, from discovery and strategy through delivery, launch, and learning.
- Strong business acumen, including:
- Business case development
- Financial modeling
- Margin and cost sensitivity analysis
- Pricing and packaging strategy inputs
- Ability to lead complex initiatives and influence without authority across Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Services, Operations, and executive stakeholders.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and executive-ready communication skills, including the ability to frame decisions, tradeoffs, and risks.
- Remote role: Must be located on the U.S. East Coast (Eastern Time Zone).
- Willingness to travel:
- Denmark (Horsens) and UK (Bracknell): up to 6 times per year
- Colorado (U.S.): up to 6 times per year
- Must be comfortable working early, starting at 7:00 am ET.
Preferred
- MBA from an accredited institution.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with DECT or IP-DECT, SIP, VoIP, UCaaS/PBX systems, wireless infrastructure, or alarm/nurse call systems.
