Make your mark in Underwriting:

The AIG Facultative Desk, Latin America underwrites a diversified facultative reinsurance portfolio in Property, Energy & Construction, Casualty, Financial Lines, Marine, Political Violence, and Cyber White Label. Depending on our clients’ needs, the Desk can deploy capacity on behalf of AIG to reinsurance brokers and insurance companies across Latin America. 

How you will create an impact:

The Casualty Regional Product Leader will be responsible for the designing and direction of the Business Plan to develop a Facultative Reinsurance Portfolio for Casualty products including General Liability, Construction Liability, Environmental Liability, Energy Liability, and Product Recall across Latin American. The Product Leader will create and implement and manage the different business strategies to generate a balanced and profitable portfolio for the organization including distribution management with wholesale and Facultative reinsurance brokers in each territory identifying, qualifying, and coordinating  alternative distribution channels through the AIG Multinational network partners and other insurance companies in the region, development of new products, portfolio analysis, monitoring of key performance indicators, among other responsibilities.

Team & Operational Management (25% of time allocated to the following duties)

  • Serves as member of FAC Desk Regional Leadership team.
  • Champions and drives continuous professional development of the Casualty team in the Facultative Reinsurance Desk.
  • Ensures the required standards of governance, systems and controls, and regulatory compliance are established and maintained by team members for the Casualty division.
  • Supports team in making business decisions that leverage their expertise and experience in combination with powerful, analytical models.
  • Work with Claims, Finance, Operational and Actuarial support will be provided by existing teams and expertise per defined workflow.
  • Engages with Team underwriters in the placement of facultative business in all lines of business.
  • Partner with existing functional teams to implement operational model/workflow and systems to service the business out of the Facultative Desk.

Portfolio Management & Underwriting (75% of time allocated to the following duties)

  • Develops Financial Lines Underwriting strategy to achieve a profitable growing portfolio that matches customer demand, including channel and go-to-market strategy and distribution resource allocation at LAC level.
  • Develops, monitors and influences the deployment of Casualty underwriting strategy (including talent management) and P&L, product development, executing upon agreed strategies within global ‘guardrails’. This includes detailed monitoring standards / quality reviews to assess loss ratios and underwriting results.
  • Leads the development and ongoing maintenance of the Company’s customer centric and risk management culture.
  • Develop, position, market, and deliver innovative, market-leading products and services through a zonal framework to a network of producers in a manner that effectively leverages our strengths as a competitive differential in the marketplace. Drive underwriting excellence across the business by establishing and ensuring adherence to risk appetite, line setting, standards, and guidelines, and ensure rating and pricing adequacy.
  • Drive an effective Facultative strategy that supports our risk appetite for per risk and aggregation across the product, as well as active management of the portfolio.
  • Communicate risk appetite and AIG Risk Management Value Proposition to brokers.
  • Collaborate with Distribution, GM and Territory Managers, and other line(s) of business underwriters to target desirable accounts and cross selling opportunities from brokers.
  • Recognize and create cross sell opportunities for other Commercial products.
  • Work with broker to understand the deal structure, terms, and AIG Services that best meets clients’ needs.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms & conditions, and deal structure with brokers and clients.
  • Develop strong, long-term relationships with brokers and clients to profitably grow a book of business.
  • Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent of education and experience.
  • Vast experience (10-15) years FAC Reinsurance underwriting, leadership, and portfolio management experience in Casualty across Latin American and the Caribbean.
  • Experience in the broker market is required - must have a history of good relationships with the major reinsurance intermediaries.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships, including customers and intermediaries.
  • Knowledge of market segmentation, distribution, and placement dynamics between FAC R/I and direct insurance.
  • Advanced working knowledge of LAC Casualty lines of business including product features, policy forms, and legal & regulatory environments in LATAM.
  • Bilingual (Fluency in English and Spanish) (Portuguese is desirable)
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions.
  • Proven Strategic Leadership skills in developing vision and purpose and leading effective
  • Demonstrated business savvy, analytical and quantitative skills
