The Opportunity

As a dedicated Product Development Manager, you will help drive the strategy and design of USAA’s Umbrella product by analyzing and monitoring Umbrella performance, contributing to the development of our next generation product and identifying opportunities for best practices and innovation across the Property and Casualty Organization. As a member of the Umbrella business team, you will have direct influence on the future of our Umbrella product.

This role is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. However, individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office will be expected to work on-site  four days per week.  

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Participate in the creation  of digital first products supporting the needs and risks of USAA Members. 

  • Support efforts to develop and launch new innovative product offerings as well as auxiliary/enhanced features/services for existing products.

  • Advise others in the launch of new products and in the evaluation and decision to buy/build or partner.

  • Generate creative product and coverage solutions for members needs to ensure a dynamic product pipeline exists.

  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge of business and underwriting performance for products in scope (e.g. trends, results, etc.). 

  • Analyze internal and external data and member information to support formulation of product strategy and enhance competitive intelligence.

  • Conduct analysis of key data to support on-going monitoring, maintenance and underwriting of existing “new in market” products based on product performance, member needs and competitive changes in the market including but not limited to product rules, rates, and forms. 

  • Develop and communicate the new product value proposition for product enhancements/features.

  • Guide Member Contact teams on how to effectively use sales guides and provides education on new products and services, including new offerings and enhancements to existing features.

  • Coordinate with relevant control partners (including Leal, Compliance, and Risk Management) to ensure product offerings are designed and implemented in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. ​

What you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, Statistics, or related discipline; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in Product, Actuary, Underwriting, Marketing, Operations, Financial Services or relevant military experience.

  • Minimum 4 years experience working in Property & Casualty insurance

  • Experience conducting research, compiling and analyzing data, and identifying trends that have supported product decisions. ​

What sets you apart:

  • Minimum 4 years' experience working in Property & Casualty insurance.

  • Product Design & Innovation: Demonstrated experience in P&C product design such as rate order of calculation, coverages  business rules, or rating variables.

  • Data Analysis & Insight Generation: Proven ability to analyze complex datasets, identify trends, and translate findings into actionable insights for business stakeholders.

  • Advanced Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.

    • Experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehousing platforms.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience working effectively between business and IT teams to achieve project goals.

  • Intellectual Curiosity: Demonstrated willingness to explore data, ask insightful questions, and drive understanding beyond surface-level findings.

  • Extensive Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance Expertise: Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience within the Property & Casualty insurance sector.

  • Specialized Umbrella Insurance Knowledge: In-depth understanding of umbrella insurance products, including policy structures, coverages, and common claims scenarios.

  • Data Analysis & Visualization Proficiency: Demonstrated experience utilizing data analysis and visualization tools to extract insights, identify trends, and support decision-making.

  • Military Affiliation: U.S. Military experience, or the background of a military spouse/domestic partner, is highly valued.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $114,080.00 - $218,030.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
