Performs intermediate administrative support work assisting with clerical and sub-professional health services at the Health Department, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Public Health Nurse Manager. Position Responsibilities
Domain 1: Data and Analytics and Assessment Skills 1-8
- Maintains client's medical records by labeling laboratory test sheets and specimens, including but not limited to processing, recording, and filing protected health information
- Takes applications/information from clients, which includes: obtaining some personal and medical history; determining the eligibility of clients as outlined by departmental policies and guidelines, giving the client the exact date and time of appointments
- Collects and analyzes quantitative and qualitative data
- Assists clients with making appointments and checking out according to departmental policies and procedures
Domain 4: Health Equity Skills 3 & 4
- Recognizes the diversity of individuals and populations, reducing systemic and structural barriers that perpetuate health inequities by providing information, as directed by supervisor, medical personnel and agency policy to health services recipients.
Domain 6: Public Health Sciences Skills 2
- Contacts clients as instructed by phone or letter regarding tests results, interviews, referrals, and overdue appointments as instructed by supervisor per agency policy applying public health sciences in delivering the 10 Essential Public Health Services.
- Escorts clients to their destination within the health department; set up exam rooms and interviewing rooms, having needed supplies ready for use during the appointment.
Domain 2: Policy Development and Program Planning Skills 4
- Improves clinical programs and services by assisting practitioners and nurses with standard assignments and laboratory functions such as setting up equipment, assisting practitioners with pelvic examinations, and serving as a patient chaperone when deemed necessary by the assessment of appropriately credentialed medical personnel.
Domain 3: Communication Skills 2 & 4
- Communicates with internal and external audiences by facilitating communications among clinicians and clients inside and outside the organization by linking clients to the appropriate resources for education and health care needs under the direct supervision of appropriately credentialed personnel of the health care team.
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Significant knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods, and practices. Significant knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports, and other materials. Ability to record, compile, summarize and perform basic analysis of data. Ability to independently work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties that may be sensitive in nature. Some knowledge of the principles and practices of patient care and techniques of practical nursing. Some knowledge of common health and safety precautions in working in local health departments. Ability to work with staff and clients, under supervision, as set up by departmental policies. Ability to maintain clerical records and compile reports from these records. Ability to use sound judgment and empathy in dealing with clients. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to operate a personal computer and standard office productivity software.
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements
High school diploma or GED and moderate experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference will be given to applicants that are Spanish-English bilingual Special Requirements Valid driver's license
