GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Process Specialist is responsible for selecting equipment and developing operational aspects of new products in conjunction with the New Product Development team. Establishing and monitoring timelines and budgets (costs), reporting and facilitating communication across all of Manufacturing, Design, Tooling and Die Manufacture and Sales and Marketing (Customer Services). Responsible for redefining and improving existing production processes with a view to continuous improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Reports to the Production Manager and will provide technical advice to EVP of Operations and Operations Managers for the North American and Chinese SMI facilities on all manufacturing processes.

  • Must understand the precious metals, minting manufacturing processes, metallurgy, and a high level of knowledge and expertise in best practices as they pertain to the manufacture of blanks, coins and other minted products. This role is responsible for the development and improvement of the minting and manufacturing processes and includes process improvements, justification of investment in new processes, equipment and technology which will lead to increased opportunities.
  • Provides analysis of key process areas, performing Cpk and Gage R&R studies as needed.

  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously; ensuring products are completed on time, to cost and
    quality specifications are met.
  • Ensure new products are tested and approved by Manufacturing and Customers prior to full initiation
    of product production.
  • Organize, document and analyze results for conformance to internal and external product specifications.
  • Develop and Maintain SMI's ERP routing data for accuracy on existing and new products.
  • Oversee product development, selection and qualification of various parts being used.
  • Work with all departments in scheduling of production time for new product & process design.
  • Ensure critical issues are correctly identified and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Work with Customer Service, Manufacturing and New Product Development to assist in providing
    specification proposals to Customers who are requesting assistance and guidance.
  • Leads a continuous process improvement program with a focus on eliminating waste and redundancy, and improving operational efficiency, quality, safety, security, and collaboration between departments and functions.
  • Is responsible to ensure that ISO 9001Quality Standards are maintained.
  • Develop and Maintain processes to meet customer specifications and or satisfy customer's expectations.

  • Note: Good attendance is an essential function of the position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Two-year college degree in mechanical discipline or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in manufacturing process development preferred. Proficient computer skills with 3-5 years' experience in Excel. Advanced math skills and statistics preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

As an employee, you may be required to work in cool to extremely hot environments. There is potential for exposure to fuels, oils, cleaning solvents and fumes from machinery. PPE and or job specific safety equipment may be required.
