Overview

We are seeking a full-time Process Engineer 1 at Garmins U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for creating basic tooling, routings, and basic process instructions in a team-oriented environment. The Electrical Engineering Team (EET) is responsible for the calibration and performance verification processes for Garmin products produced in the Olathe, KS facility. The units are typically calibrated and tested using automated equipment due to the quantity and complexity of the test steps. The Process Engineer's responsibility is to assemble and maintain the test equipment and procedures, while monitoring test metrics to identify opportunities to improve throughput.

Essential Functions

Utilize knowledge of CAD software to create basic tooling, develop basic process instructions, and create routings. Attend DFT training and demonstrate understanding of Lean Philosophy. Gain knowledge of and demonstrate understanding of ECO implementation. Identify and resolve defects of basic scope using proper engineering tools and techniques. Participate in Design Reviews with senior members of the process engineering team. Communicate status of work clearly providing visibility to supervisor or mentor and may be responsible for planning own technical work. Apply design standards and procedures using appropriate engineering tools to document and implement basic designs/tasks/projects in an organized manner.

Cleanliness Zone Area Requirements

This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards.

Research and Development

Research and develop new, cutting edge automation concepts. Design, test and validate all aspects of the electrical hardware design. Integrate all equipment components and I/O. Design and develop basic software applications.

Knowledge of Production and Operations Processes

Apply knowledge of production and operations processes to overall design. Interact with automation design team to ensure electrical feasibility and interface with outside teams/individuals to ensure all solutions comply with product design specifications.

Generate Revision-Controlled Schematics and User Documentation

Generate revision-controlled schematics and user documentation.

Project Management and Collaboration

Project manage and collaborate with fellow project stakeholders. Conduct training for equipment operators and maintenance technicians.

Troubleshooting and Continuous Improvement

Troubleshoot, support and continuously improve existing automated solutions.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related engineering field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule). Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated capability for applying industry standards and procedures to develop, implement, and document operational processes. Ability to learn how to use and apply engineering tools. Must demonstrate the capability to perform basic troubleshooting & debugging.

Desired Qualifications

Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5). Previous work or internship experience working in a manufacturing environment. Previous experience with Electrical panel design, PLC and HMI programming, controls and vision systems, and VB/VB.net/C# programming. Excellent problem-solving ability.
