Engineer the systems that move industries forward

At Dexter, our products keep trailers, RVs, marine vessels, agricultural equipment, and manufactured homes on the move. From axles and suspension systems to brakes, doors, venting products, trailer parts, accessories, and towing components—we build for performance. We’re seeking a Process Development Mechanical Engineer to support our Albion, IN facility and broader multi-plant campus, leading our Maintenance department while guiding capital projects, process innovation, and launch excellence.

Imagine this scenario

A new product variant is set to launch. You partner with Product Design in cross-functional reviews to confirm standard and custom features. You approve prints and specifications for cost-effective manufacturability, create the manufacturing standards the shop will run on, and finalize layouts and flow charts to ensure safe, efficient throughput. You design the fixtures and tooling, coordinate installation through Maintenance, and drive the project through to completion—resolving quality items, supporting field service needs when they arise, and locking in cycle time, quality, and cost improvements.

Your core responsibilities

  • Production support: Provide technical guidance, structured problem solving, and hands-on troubleshooting (mechanical/pneumatic/hydraulic/electrical) with operators and maintenance technicians.
  • Standards & launches: Develop and communicate manufacturing standards for new products and initiatives; align stakeholders across departments.
  • Design authority: Review and approve engineering drawings/specs; analyze existing designs for function and constraints.
  • Mechanical ownership: Take fixtures, tooling, components, and assemblies from project scope through completion.
  • Process advancement: Lead strategic programs focused on cycle time, safety, quality, and cost; implement improvements on the floor.
  • Continuous improvement: Engage in team-based CI projects and self-direct daily improvements.
  • Quality collaboration: Support audit action items, address manufacturing-related quality issues, and assist with field service as needed.
  • Capital execution: Lead large projects with cross-functional teams to deliver capability, reliability, and performance.

Capabilities you’ll leverage

  • Computer proficiency: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; 2D/3D CAD (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor preferred); statistical tools including Minitab and Cpk/Ppk.
  • Communication: Influence and collaborate across all levels; build presentations; write operator instruction sheets and quality alerts; synthesize complex data into crisp recommendations.
  • Problem solving: Define problems, collect data, confirm facts, and communicate analytical decisions; act with urgency and hit deadlines.

Experience that fits

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field—or equivalent blend of education and experience.
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing environment with CNC experience.

Technologies you’ll interact with

  • AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor
  • Industrial Robot equipment
  • Minitab for statistical analysis

Rewards & growth

  • Competitive compensation
  • Comprehensive benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, STD, LTD, FSA, HSA
  • 3% profit sharing via Safe Harbor
  • 401(k) with company contributions
  • Paid Holidays and PTO
  • Career development with real internal mobility

Bring your engineering rigor and continuous improvement mindset to Dexter. Help us build smarter processes and a safer, more efficient operation in Albion, IN.
