Job Title: Control Systems Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced Control Systems Engineer to join our team. As a Control Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and reliability of our DCSPLC control systems, Emergency Shutdown system, Data Historian, and Alarm Management system. You will work independently and as part of a team to design, simulate, implement, test, and maintain these systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the integrity and reliability of the DCSPLC control systems, Emergency Shutdown system, Data Historian, and Alarm Management system
  • Design, simulate, implement, test, and maintain these systems
  • Provide guidance to operations personnel on process control and optimization
  • Direct maintenance personnel on troubleshooting
  • Coordinate with contractors and consultants on large projects and TARs
  • Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance required for system hardware and testing required for safety interlocks
  • Evaluate and document findings, track items for completion, and maintain detailed records
  • Communicate with operations, maintenance, and engineering departments on process control improvements, troubleshooting, and training
  • Coordinate interlock testing and preventive maintenance on automation hardware systems
  • Develop and implement a system to measure, track, and report on reliability and availability of the DCS, ESD, PLC, Data Historian, and Alarm Management systems
  • Analyze process data to identify areas for improvement and develop control strategies
  • Support production, maintenance, ES&H laboratory, and engineering departments by analyzing process and system data
  • Provide training for plant personnel on automated systems as required
  • Support PHA, PSSR, and SIL processes and PSPM initiatives as needed
  • Support management of change processes, TEC procedure review, and TPCC by reviewing feasibility and accuracy of proposed changes
  • Compile, review, and produce reports required to track ongoing performance of plant automations

Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Engineering with minimum 5 years of experience in an industrial environment or AAS Technical Degree with minimum 10 years of experience in industrial electrical instrumentation and process controls
  • In-depth understanding of control theory, including PID control, advanced control strategies, model predictive control, adaptive control, and statistical process control
  • Expertise in a variety of instrumentation technologies, pressure, temperature, flow, level, etc.
  • Distributed control systems, DCS, programmable logic controllers, PLCs, and human-machine interfaces (HMIs)
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot distributed control systems, Emerson RS3, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot safety instrumented systems, Honeywell FSC, Hima
  • Proficient in PLC programming languages, e.g., ladder logic, structured text
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot data acquisition and alarm management systems, e.g., OSI PI, Process View
  • Proficient in using simulation tools to model and analyze complex chemical processes
  • Knowledgeable in industrial communications configuration protocols, e.g., Modbus, Profibus
  • Understanding of industry standards, e.g., ISA, IEC, to ensure safe and sustainable operations
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot smart instrumentation
  • Ability to read, generate, and modify P&IDs, loop sheets, and single line diagrams associated with instrumentation and controls connections to skid packages, distributed control systems, DCS, and safety instrumented systems, SIS
