Summary:

  • The Medical Technologist is responsible for the products and documents laboratory test results for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease

Responsibilities:

  • Posses the ability to visually distinguish colors for precise analysis of laboratory samples.

  • Performs appropriately requested analysis and examinations on all types of specimens received by the STAT Laboratory.

    Demonstrates proficient utilization of the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Documents all testing activities and reviews all results that don’t auto verify before they are verified in the LIS.

    Utilizes and operates sophisticated laboratory instruments and equipment in the performance of laboratory analysis.

    Follows appropriate instrument and equipment maintenance procedures in order to make sure that the equipment is in good working order. Troubleshoots instrument problems, following the instrument vendor’s guidelines stated in their manual and also works with the instrument vendors hot line via the phone to troubleshoot and repair the instrument problem.

    Participates in evaluating new test procedures and new analyses.

    Complies with all of the requirements of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the Pennsylvania Department of Health and OSHA.

    Adheres to the STAT Laboratory’s Quality Control Program, Clinical Effectiveness and Quality Improvement (CEQI) and STAT Laboratory policies that includes the Critical Value Policy, running controls after changing reagents on an instrument, after calibration, after a lot number change and makes sure that all quality controls are within range before results are verified.

    Performs clerical duties which include providing test results to hospital personnel, documentation of daily operations and related computer activities.

    Assists in the orientation and training of new laboratory personnel.

Credentials:

  • Medical Technologist

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
  • Education Specialization: or higher degree of education in Medical Technology or other biological or chemical science that meets the CLIA. Equivalent Experience: •And 2+ years Laboratory science experience preferred.
