Job Details

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Supervise traffic engineers, traffic designers/planners, and CAD drafters/technicians.
  • Manage traffic engineering and planning projects from inception through completion.
  • Lead traffic engineering design teams.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Prepare contracts, fee proposals, and scopes of work.
  • Coordinate and interact with clients and public agencies.
  • Provide municipal traffic engineering services.
  • Prepare and process final traffic engineering plans, including:

Traffic Signal Plans
Traffic Control Plans
Signing and Striping Plans
  • Prepare Traffic Impact Analyses.
  • Prepare traffic engineering studies, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Provide in-house traffic engineering services for municipalities and public agencies.
  • Review and apply California traffic engineering standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Utilize traffic engineering software including HCS, Vistro, Synchro, and related platforms.
  • Support transit planning and design projects when applicable.
  • Review engineering deliverables for quality and compliance.

Qualifications
  • BSCE degree and California Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) or Traffic Engineer (TE).
  • Minimum 7 years of traffic engineering/planning experience or equivalent of 12 years within the industry.
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience supervising traffic designers/planners and CAD drafters/technicians.
  • Experience managing traffic engineering design teams, project schedules, budgets, contracts, fee proposals, and scopes of work.
  • Strong background in municipal traffic engineering services, traffic signal design, traffic control plans, signing and striping plans, Traffic Impact Analyses, and traffic-related studies and reports.
  • Strong background supervising the work of traffic designers/planners and CAD drafters/technicians.
  • Recent Southern California experience, preferably within the San Diego County region.
  • Proven experience with client and public agency coordination and contract traffic engineering services.
  • Experience with HCS, Vistro, Synchro, and other traffic engineering software.
  • Working knowledge of the California Vehicle Code (CVC), MUTCD, Caltrans standards, and Highway Capacity Manual.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and processing traffic engineering plans and technical reports.
  • Transit planning and design experience is a plus.
