Principal Systems Engineer – Product Manager
At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today's mission and stay ahead of tomorrow's threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer – Product Manager supporting one of our premier programs. In this role, you will drive the evolution of a critical platform within a fast-paced Agile Release Train (ART), bridging strategic objectives with tactical execution to deliver high-impact capabilities. You will own and prioritize the ART-level product backlog, define and execute the product vision and roadmap, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver mission-critical solutions. Working in a dynamic Agile environment, you will help modernize delivery approaches while balancing agility, security, and mission assurance to support the future of satellite ground systems.
What You Will Do
Define and communicate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with program objectives and mission priorities
Serve as the primary liaison between stakeholders and the Agile Release Train (ART), translating strategic priorities into executable work while managing and prioritizing the ART-level product backlog
Collaborate with System Architects, Systems Engineers, Release Train Engineers (RTEs), and Product Owners to decompose system-level requirements into actionable, testable features
Lead backlog refinement, roadmap development, and cross-team dependency coordination in preparation for Program Increment (PI) Planning
Monitor feature delivery and program performance using Agile metrics, stakeholder feedback, and mission outcomes to drive continuous improvement and maximize value delivery
Partner with Product Owners to translate features into user stories and ensure coordinated delivery across Agile teams
Lead and participate in Agile ceremonies, including PI Planning, System Demos, Inspect & Adapt workshops, and backlog refinement sessions to foster continuous improvement
Mentor Product Owners while collaborating with functional leads and the Release Train Engineer (RTE) to support resource planning, staffing alignment, and successful program execution
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum of 8+ years of prior relevant experience
Experience working in Agile environments, including value stream coordination, Agile Release Train (ART) execution, and utilization of Agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Agile planning and reporting platforms
Experience supporting ground systems, space operations, or mission planning systems within classified, Department of Defense (DoD), or Intelligence Community (IC) environments
Experience with SAFe Agile practices, including product management and/or product ownership responsibilities; SAFe certifications such as SAFe Product Manager/Product Owner (PMPO), SAFe Agilist, or SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) are preferred
Experience leading cross-functional teams, managing multi-team dependencies, and collaborating across Agile Release Trains (ARTs) in a Lean-Agile environment
Active and transferable U.S. government-issued TS/SCI security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer
Experience leading multidisciplinary systems engineering teams and driving collaboration across technical disciplines
Experience applying value stream mapping and similar frameworks to prioritize, plan, and deliver enterprise-level features
Experience using design thinking principles and continuous stakeholder engagement to identify, understand, and address user needs
Experience with automation, modern software factory practices, and tools such as Cucumber, Gherkin, and Zephyr
Experience supporting satellite ground system development or operational environments
What We Offer
Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. At RTX we value: Safety, Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, and Innovation
