The Microsoft Fabric App Dev team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to help define and build the next generation of application development capabilities on Microsoft Fabric. Our mission is to enable all developers, low code or pro code, to build, manage, and operate data-intensive applications with the simplicity, productivity, and operational excellence of modern SaaS platforms.

As a technical leader on the team, you will play a key role in shaping the architecture, platform strategy, and developer experience for Fabric Apps. You will drive the design and implementation of core platform capabilities including GraphQL APIs, User Data Functions, AI-powered developer experiences, and scalable application runtime services. You will partner closely with engineers, product leaders, and architects across Microsoft to define the future of application development on Fabric.

Our engineering challenges span the full stack-from large-scale distributed systems and cloud services to developer tools, APIs, SDKs, and AI-driven development experiences. This provides a unique opportunity to influence end-to-end product direction while working on some of the most complex and impactful problems in modern cloud platforms. Responsibilities

  • Drive engineering initiatives from inception, hands-on experimentation, evaluation, design and implementation to eventually shipping to the customers
  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance, maintainability and reliability of our services and components
  • Work across org boundaries to identify and build solutions that deliver value for our customers
  • Work closely with Product managers, customers and their feedback, and service telemetry to identify new improvements in the product
  • Participate in Livesite operations with emphasis on timely response, delivery & satisfaction for stakeholders
  • Contribute to learning and grow together team culture and mentor junior engineers on the team by sharing knowledge, participating in Code reviews and Design reviews, leading by example to produce extensible and maintainable code, well thought architecture proposals and design docs.
  • Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of product while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Job Requirements: Other & Additional

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience building commercial grade software, with experience in mission-critical cloud applications, large scale, high availability services.
  • 4+ years of experience designing and implementing Fullstack applications.
  • Experience building developer-facing products, services, and tools that enable seamless development experiences.
  • Experience supporting developers as they build AI native applications and run critical workloads at global scale.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
