Position Specific Description

NextEra Energys Power Generation Division is looking for a Principal Combustion (Gas) Turbine Engineer to join the Combustion Turbine Fleet Team (CTFT). This position will include responsibilities for leading technical support for a large fleet of combustion turbines, with ownership of troubleshooting, work/outage planning, fleet reliability improvements, and working closely with OEMs. Additionally, this role will include working on strategic initiatives with the ongoing efforts to reduce forced outage rates, O&M expense, and to improve overall fleet reliability and availability.

Candidate shall have extensive knowledge regarding the operation and maintenance of a diverse OEM combustion turbine fleet. This would include a basic knowledge (to varying degrees) of all turbine / generator mechanical sub-systems, basic design, vibration, performance, preventative and corrective maintenance, repairs, outage practices, operational troubleshooting.

The ideal candidate will have detailed knowledge of the Gas Turbine and its auxiliary systems including but not limited to the lube oil system, hydraulic system, gas fuel system, liquid fuel system, and operation of the machine.

Responsibilities

  • Candidate would be expected to work in a team environment while also displaying initiative to self-manage tasks and projects.
  • Lead troubleshooting and technical decision making for fleet assets, ensuring consistency across the fleet.
  • Manage documentation and currency of Engineering Requests, Work Orders, OEM Bulletins and Management Of Change (MOCs) requests in Maximo.
  • Actively participate in strategic/proactive efforts to improve productivity and advance fleet reliability.
  • Support parts planning and annual budget planning, ensuring that plans account for fleet lessons learned.
  • Manage the technical evaluation of component capability, reliability and durability with OEMs and 3rd Party Suppliers.
  • After-hours support required on occasion via virtual/phone meetings and could require on-site consultation.

The Ideal Candidate Would Have The Following:

  • Basic experience designing, installing/commissioning, or maintaining Gas turbines and plant auxiliaries.
  • Strong communications/presentation skills.
  • Strong Excel capabilities with macro and programming skills desirable.
  • Demonstrated field service or design experience with either the Siemens or Mitsubishi Combustion Turbines.
  • Familiarity with either the T3000, Ovation, or Netmation Controls Software.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Yellow Belt certification.
