Job Description Summary

Principal Faculty are responsible for teaching, curriculum development, student assessment, and Program support across all phases of the Physician Assistant Program. Faculty contribute to the academic, professional, and accreditation-related functions of the Program in alignment with ARC-PA Standards.
Minimum Qualifications
----------------------
- Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of clinical practice experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.
- Current NCCPA certification for PA applicants.
- Current Michigan state licensure or eligibility for licensure.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
------------------------
- Prior teaching experience in graduate medical education.
- Scholarly activity and/or research experience in academic or clinical settings.
- Participation in state, regional, or national professional organizations that support the PA profession.
- Interest in contributing to the Physician Assistant Studies academic program in a leadership capacity.

Essential Functions:
- Serve as a Principal Faculty member of the MPAS Master of Physician Assistant Science program.
- Provide student instruction, evaluate student performance, assure the availability of remedial instruction, and provide academic counseling of students.
- As an active member of the faculty, help design, implement, coordinate, and evaluate the curriculum, develop, review, and revise as necessary the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program.
- Select applicants for admission to the MPAS program, evaluate MPAS program outcomes, assist in developing and upholding and refining program policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in local, regional, and national PA educational and professional organizations, maintain applicable professional certification, support and participate in professional development opportunities, and scholarly activities.
- Maintain a collegial learning and working environment for faculty, staff, students, community partners, and other stakeholders.
As directed by the Department Chair, contribute to the broader faculty objectives of the Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences Department and the School of Health Sciences, including advancement of the strategic plan and initiatives of the University, School, and Department, championing commitment to the health of all people and communities, fostering an environment where all members of the university community can thrive, representation of the program on department, school, and university-level committees, and in community service activities.

The School of Health Sciences serves over 1700 undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and post-professional students through a singular model of advancing community-engaged translational relationships connecting theory to best practices in four thematic areas:
- Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences - programs include medical laboratory science, histotechnology, radiologic technology, nuclear medicine, pre-clinical professions, as well as master of science programs in both physician assistant and CDS.
- Human Movement Science - the PhD, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Exercise Science, graduate and post-professional certificates, the undergraduate orthotist and prosthetist assistant program, and the undergraduate exercise science degree program.
- Public and Environmental Wellness - undergraduate and graduate programs in public health and environmental health and safety with graduate certificates.
- Interdisciplinary Health Sciences - undergraduate degree programs in health sciences, nutrition, dietetics, and interdisciplinary healthcare studies with a master of science degree.
