Job Title: Principal Consultant – Commercial Data & Marketing Technology
Primary Location: Remote, must reside in the US and will have occasional travel
Position Type: Contract-to-Hire

Overview
TalentFish is casting a line for a highly experienced Principal Consultant focused on Commercial Data & Marketing Technology within the life sciences/pharma space for our premier client. This individual will serve as both a senior technical leader and client-facing strategic partner supporting complex commercial data and MarTech initiatives.

This is a highly hands-on role requiring deep technical expertise alongside executive-level consulting and stakeholder management capabilities. The ideal candidate can operate comfortably across architecture, engineering, agile delivery leadership, commercial analytics, and senior client advisory responsibilities.

The role will support a high-visibility life sciences engagement with opportunity to expand impact across additional pharma initiatives over time.

The Work — Day to Day
In a typical week, you will:
  • Lead the engagement’s overall delivery cadence — sprint planning, backlog grooming, stakeholder reviews, status communication
  • Own architectural decisions across the commercial data platform: ingestion patterns from media platforms (Google Ads, MS Ads, Meta, TikTok, CM360), CRM and sales (Veeva), pharma data vendors (IQVIA, Komodo, Symphony, Crossix), and the agency-side media plan
  • Stay in the platform — Databricks, Azure DevOps, the data model itself — for design work, code review, and the unblocking work that only the senior technical person can do
  • Reconcile campaign metadata across platforms using Claravine (or equivalent), and bring the media agency flowchart in as a first-class source of truth for spend-to-outcome reconciliation
  • Translate technical realities into commercial language for senior client stakeholders, and translate commercial outcomes into technical priorities for the team
  • Mentor and direct the existing team
The Stack You’ll Work With
Data platform: Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, workflows, jobs). CI/CD and source control: Azure DevOps (pipelines, repos, artifacts, branch strategy). Sources you’ll ingest, model, and operate on:
  • CRM and personal promotion: Veeva CRM / Vault
  • Adtech and media: Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta, TikTok, CM360, programmatic DSPs
  • MarTech and marketing automation: Marketo, with familiarity in Salesforce Marketing Cloud or Adobe Experience Cloud as a plus
  • Metadata management: Claravine or equivalent campaign taxonomy tooling
  • Agency-side: the media plan and flowchart as canonical artifacts for reconciliation
What Success Looks Like
In your first 30 days, you’ve built relationships across the client’s senior team, earned credibility with the engineering team by being immediately useful in code review and architectural conversations, and have a clear-eyed read on the engagement’s strengths and gaps.

In your first 90 days, you’re running delivery day-to-day with confidence, the client is bringing harder problems to you, and you’ve identified and shipped one or two pragmatic improvements to the platform that meaningfully move outcomes.

In your first 12 months, the client treats you as their trusted senior advisor for commercial data and MarTech, you’ve expanded scope or impact on the engagement, and you’re positioned to lead a second pharma engagement when the right opportunity emerges.

Preferred Experience
  • 10+ years in pharma/life sciences commercial data, marketing technology, or commercial analytics — in-house, at a consultancy or agency, or both
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience designing, building, and operating modern data platforms on Databricks — Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, workflows, jobs. We are not looking for “I’ve heard of Databricks”; we are looking for “I’ve shipped on Databricks.”
  • Production experience with CI/CD on Azure DevOps — pipelines, repos, artifacts, branch strategy
  • Working knowledge of pharma commercial data, including personal promotion (rep-driven, Veeva-centric), non-personal promotion (HCP digital and DTC), and physician-level (NPI-linked) prescriber data
  • Hands-on familiarity ingesting, modeling, and reconciling data from major adtech and martech platforms including Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta, TikTok, CM360, and Marketo
  • Working knowledge of campaign metadata management (Claravine or equivalent) and the operational discipline of reconciling media agency flowcharts and plans against platform-level execution data
  • Familiarity with major pharma-specific data vendors: IQVIA, Komodo, Symphony, Crossix/Veeva Crossix, Aktana, and similar
  • Enough fluency in omnichannel concepts — next-best-action, journey orchestration, suppression, frequency management, measurement frameworks — to design and operate the data infrastructure that supports them; you do not need to own the strategy
  • Strong agile delivery practice — sprint planning, backlog management, technical review, stakeholder rituals
  • The temperament to lead a senior consulting engagement: judgment under ambiguity, comfort with senior client conversations, the instinct to serve the work
What Sets You Apart
You’re a builder. You’re a partner. You take the work seriously and yourself lightly. You are quick to give credit and slow to take it. You believe pragmatism beats perfection in any environment where shipping matters. You’re comfortable in the technical weeds and comfortable in front of a CIO, and you treat both conversations with the same care. You have opinions, you hold them firmly, and you change your mind when the evidence calls for it.

Growth Path
This role starts as the senior lead on one strategic life sciences engagement. As scope expands across our pharma portfolio, the role can grow into a practice-leading position; building the clients’ life sciences practice as a recognized capability area, with the trajectory and impact that implies.

There is flexibility in compensation for candidates based on their experience and qualifications that aligns with the market; competitive compensation aligned with experience, engagement model, and scope of impact. This role also qualifies for comprehensive benefits such as health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off. TalentFish is committed to pay transparency and equal opportunity. The salary range provided is in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
